  1. butterfly house is good but not too cheap, heeley city farm is good for free, if the animals aren't in their pens then they will be in the patches of field they have, usually
  2. they may actually be using their brains and clearing the rubbish out during the few weeks before they moved out, instead of doing it all at once. they also get charged for leaving extra waste by their landlords, as we found out in 2nd year. we didn't leave anywhere near as much as some i have seen this year though.
  3. our post usually arrives after 3pm. not a big deal, i see it as getting the next days post a little earlier
  4. you'll probably be ok aslong as you dont drive it and it isnt in the way of anything/anybody. of course if it gets stolen or damaged you won't be able to claim
  5. I thought i saw a lot of steam travelling past my window (not directly, of course)
  6. 53 will do ya fine, will drop you off at the ski village at the bottom of rutland road as said
  7. If you have an issue with these speedhumps causing damage to your car, then your best bet is to avoid them or slow down. If you know they damage it then why not use prentative measures to avoid the damage? In some cases it is difficult to avoid them but if you take them at a slower speed then you may well find you are ok. Also, who's to say the springs you had where made from decent material, if they had already been replaced since the car was new theres a chance they could be of inferior quality. Regarding the speed limit comment earlier, some people don't care what the speed limit is anyway and will still drive at what they class is an acceptable speed given their experience/skill level, unfortunately.
  8. give your colleague a high 5, he'll love it
  9. the problem lies with the speed the humps are taken at. simple. If you drive over them at speed the stress put through the springs is a damn sight mroe than if you drive slowly over them. I drive a car thats nearly 30 years old with very low suspension, so I HAVE to drive slowly otherwise i risk damaging my exhaust and my back. but when i drive the other halfs corsa (modern crap which has damaged suspension) i slow down. I live on a street full of those narrow speed bumps, i can only think the damage caused to her corsa is due to the roads as she never slows for bumps much and doesnt watch the road for potholes like i do. shame i cant get the damn wheels off to check whats creaking under there though and im not a council worker either, im unemployed
  10. if you would like to comment on my original post, i suggest you read it properly it was a comment on whoever said not many buses use Queens rd, i saw how many used it over the time of travelling to uni via FOOT
  11. just because there is 1 person in a car does not automatically make them selfish. When i used to commute to Alfreton i drove on my own, not because i was selfish, but because nobody else i worked with lived in sheffield or had the flexible hours i did. public transport was a real pain in the backside when my car broke down, doubled the journey time and cost. however i have no doubt that bus lanes are useful, if the people who travel into town and live on/near a bus route then there is no reason to not take a bus really, using a bus pass it probably works out cheaper, there is less damage done to your car and less stress from being stuck in traffic because you only need to remember to get on and off again.
  12. it seems my maths isnt up to scratch Im not talking about passenger consequences with regards to de-railing, im talking about how far the bugger will go at that speed, the momentum it will have will be staggering and will cause a lot of damage. regading my suggested high speed motorway, the existing motorways such as M1 could be upgraded potentially. Im not in any position to say this is doable obviously it was merely another suggestion. I simply dont see the need to spend so much money to save up to 1 hour (proposed not confirmed) particularly on such a small isle. the trouble will start when they try to build it further bast Brum when they see those things us northerners call hills.
  13. i used to walk down queens rd regularly and saw many many buses using the bus lane, often being obstructed by drivers using it at the wrong times too. my suggestion is to figure out a route through the side streets, its usually quicker when queens rd is empty never mind at rush hour.
  14. m 20 minutes was made up, sorry for any confusion. Its good that they also want to do some work on the existing rail network though, i just couldnt be bothered to read that link and still havent. i did do quite a bit of research on this subject whilst at uni last year but have forgotten most of it. For starters the space needed for extra lines is pretty enourmous. the lines will need to be very straight and any bends will need a huge radius to be able to keep up to speed. How long will it take to get the trains up to speed and particularly to stop from speed, this will make shorter trips, for example sheffield to leeds, pointless on HSR, the time saving just isnt needed. Ok so we save 45 minutes getting to london from sheffield. but at what extra cost. the train tickets arent cheap now, never mind after 20billion has been spent, and since when has the government ever been able to keep to a budget, this was originally going to be taxpayers money, is this still the case. Will road networks not be a better investment, maybe a high speed motorway network throughout the country? Maintenance will cost a bleeding fortune. They cant keep trains on time now, in my couple of months of travelling to alfreton to work i would say 80% of trains were on time. To me that is a disgrace, virtually negating the need for an exact timetable. Also keeping the lines secure will be difficult, there are too many idiots putting things on the lines now, imagine the consequences of a train derailing at 250mph. what econmic benefits will this link bring, its certainly wont be paid off at any point in the next 100/200 years.
  15. wahoo i cant wait to travel to london and save 20 minutes but still spend a fortune (pure sarcasm ) high speed rail link seems a waste of money to me, they would be wiser to spend the money sorting out the mess that is the current railways.
