  1. There was a major BBC series called "The Planets" a few years ago, but it was very science based, certainly not silent. Be aware though, any series made more than 10 years ago will now be out of date because our understanding of the Solar Systems is changing all the time. eg Pluto isn't a planet anymore, it's a MINOR planet along with lots of others.
  2. The thing I find most shocking about the OP's experience is the fact that the abuse went on in front of his daughter. Surely anybody with half an ounce of sense could refrain from it with kids present. I suppose that's the key - no sense or brains. One of the worst things I've ever seen on a sports field was the Hull v Hull KR riot when the fan got punched in the face while he had his toddler on his shoulders. Unbelievable.
  3. If you want a lttle zoo-type place, the Chestnut Centre near Chapel-en-le-Frith is nice.
  4. Has anyone been up Snowdon on a clear day? I've been up twice and seen nothing but mist at the top. I've tried cheating by landing Google Earth onto the summit and the view over Anglesey, Lleyn etc looks like it should be great.
  5. Not sure, the one near St.Johnstone football ground I think. The missus has sorted it out. She's in hospital at the moment (forummer "diane00058"), but she'll be back.
  6. Ouch! Reminds me of the old funhouse at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Built by sadists for the pleasure of masochists.
  7. I think The Cube is like the Crystal Maze. Only boring. "This is the moment of truth. Will he catch...the ball.... " (Cue tense music and watch a Big Brother reject catch a ball inside a Foxes Glacier Mint.)
  8. Sir Alan looked genuinely distressed to see the calibre of young business owners across the table last night. I thought he was going to fire all three of them at one stage. "That looks more like a toy to me" "But it's portable"
  9. He reminds me of Edwina Currie warning people not to eat eggs. Not in looks, obviously.
  10. How many people hear this at work? "Don't me tell me, the photocopiers broken again" "Yeah. Copy it on the fax machine. It's working fine..."
  11. If you'd asked this question last year I would have said Charlie Adam. Having seen him lumbering around Anfield this year, it makes me wonder how much a player relies on his teammates to make him look good.
  12. Yes! I've done that drive a few times and it is a pleasure in itself. Blair Atholl, Pitlochry, Aviemore - all lovely stop offs on the way. We saw the Ospreys at Rutland Water last week. I take back my comment about them looking like crows. They are more like magpies.
  13. Small towns with nice shopping? Try Pocklington, Barton-upon-Humber, Brigg or Louth. All favourites of ours.
  14. A walk taking it the all the Strines reservoirs would be good. They were looking spectacular the other day.
  15. That's why it's "Athletic" not "Atletico". AC Milan is "Milan" not "Milano" for the same reason. It reminds us that we gave football to the world, and then the world showed us how to play it.
  16. I'd like to see One Direction dodging bottles and flick-knives in Hamburg for a year. Sleeping in the Star Club toilets might give them a bit of an edge. They'd be covering Subterrenean Homesick Blues this time next year.
  17. I thought that Revolver was the first time the Beatles WEREN'T pulling in the same direction. Harrison began dabbling in the Eastern music seriously. McCartney was getting ever more easy-listening oriented, and Lennon was getting ever more introspective and personal. I'd say Rubber Soul was the last full-band Beatles album. I think the Beatles had so many albums that hit perfection that the best album poll is a bit pointless. A much more interesting poll would be for the worst album. My vote would go to A Hard Day's Night, as it's probably the only one which i rarely get to the end of without getting bored. The title track and Can't Buy Me Love are OK, but the most of the rest is covers, fillers and throwaways. One dodgy album in so many isn't bad though!
  18. We're off to Suffolk next Saturday for the week, and it's a county I know absolutely nothing about. We are going to the Bury St Edmunds/Stowmarket area. Does anyone have any suggestions for picturesque villages, nice seaside towns, interesting places etc? Furthest i've been down that coast is Southwold, anywhere between there and the Thames will be new to me.
  19. I reckon ITV got lucky with the Messi performance. Their choice of showing the dead-rubber Barca v Leverkusen match seemed like a lazy one, bearing in mind the APOEL v Lyon game was left finely balanced after the first leg. I chose to watch the latter, and wasn't dissappointed. Great achievement for such a minnow.
  20. Another great singer who my dad got me into is Glen Campbell. Fantastic voice and great songs by Jimmy Webb. "Wichita Lineman" is my favourite. Another one who's CDs i'm always meaning to look for but never do. I have his Greatest Hits LP from about 1970.
  21. As you all walk down from the Cherry Tree pub at High Hoyland down the hill towards Cawthorne, look out for the big bungalows on the right. Roger Moore used to live in one of them!
  22. Just had a weekend in Northumberland. See what you think of it.
