  1. Do we know what is in the bolded yet? Depending on its contents it may, or may not, go into greater detail over the number of trees to be felled and who has the final say.
  2. Someone's trying to cut down their tree.
  3. In such a model time would not be reversed, so no that's not how it goes
  4. The 1p is currently worth less due to inflation than the 0.5p when it was phased out. IIRC the world did not come to an end. As for rounding up/down this can be enforced through legislation, again no need to panic.
  5. If a one man band can't organise his business affairs in such a manner so as to be able to take off 90 days then perhaps he shouldn't be in business. ---------- Post added 13-03-2018 at 11:11 ---------- To give true equality men would have been given 52 weeks and not a share of their better halves 52 weeks. How we get men to take up the leave available to them is a different issue, and a very complicated one at that. I think part of the issue for the low take up is that for every week a man takes it reduces a mothers time with the baby, something many do not want to do. There are other equality issues which, if addressed, would aid evening out the disparity between men and women in the workplace, this is just one of them.
  6. He misunderstands my point because paternity leave is not the same as maternity leave and neither are the same as shared parental leave.
  7. You have that the wrong way round. Most bus lanes are for the use of any vehicle for most of the day and all of a weekend. They have specific times in which they are for the sole use of buses (and other permitted vehicles). One wonders why you continue to attempt to paint this false image of what bus lanes are for...
  8. You misunderstand. Paternity leave is two weeks and maternity leave is up to 52 weeks (39 weeks paid). What you have referenced is shared parental leave which is a different kettle of fish and is nothing more than a cop out to save having to actually make real effective changes. For true equality both parents would be entitled to 52 weeks leave which is not the case with SPL.
  9. Nah, a real man just carves his face off with a Stanley knife. The bonus is you only need to do it once.
  10. Given that it appears to be an almost impossible task to sort out the GPS tracking of the trams would it not be simpler to chain one of those yellow bikes I see around the city to the front of each tram and track them instead?
  11. You can remove 20% of the calories and still be full by simply reducing sugar.
  12. I don't understand why you can't walk up steps with a bit of snow on???
  13. Those who don't are perfectly free to go off and have children, so no, there is no inequality. And the problem with this is what exactly? Why shouldn't society subsidise something which ensure the continuation of the society and benefits everyone within it? Statutory maternity/paternity paid leave are paid at a far lower rate. You'd get more on out of work benefits. Couldn't disagree more. Without trying to sound corny children are the future of the nation. They are the future Doctors, nurses, carers, builders, plumbers, toilet cleaners etc. The nation and society needs then otherwise in a few years there will be no nation. As the whole of society benefits from them then the whole of society should bear some of the burden of providing for them.
  14. Well,, now that you mention it there is no reason for peak time bus lanes to be enforced on Boxing Day, or any other Bank Holiday for that matter. What could be clearer than saying all peak time bus lanes will not be in operation on any bank holiday (as many people wrongly suppose to already be the case)?
  15. So, how many people is Sheffield do you think would hear of it. Not many. And if they did , so what? You can still fine them on any bank holidays that they transgress on. You stated that restrictions on bus lanes on Xmas day couldn't be removed because it would result in some idiot getting confused, driving though a bus gate and killing someone. You have yet to explain why this doesn't happen on Saturdays and Sundays so, off you go, explain... ---------- Post added 22-02-2018 at 15:34 ---------- Then you should find it easy to do so, yet you haven't. One wonders why...
  16. To which part of my post are you referring?
  17. Because they are the only two bus lanes in Sheffield? There are plenty of bus lanes that I drive in on a regular basis with complete legality. The argument that not fining bus lane transgressions on Xmas day will lead to carnage on our roads is a spurious one and easily dismissed.
  18. Just for clarity, no they didn't. They thought lots of stupid things but nothing quite that stupid.
  19. It's not confusing if you don't tell anyone. Just don't send out any fines for Christmas Day. No one will know, no one will get confused. Those in charge can then sit back and relax on Christmas Day evening with a war fussy feeling inside for their good deed. You never know, it may even get them off the naughty list (though I doubt it). Aaaand, youv'e still to explain why Sheffield doesn't descend into carnage and mayhem on a weekend when most bus lanes arn't in operation...
  20. This is an odd one because, when you think on it, it is actually an inequality against men which, if removed, would help change attitudes to pregnancy, child birth, maternity leave and raising children in the work place. That inequality is the the disparity between maternity leave and paternity leave. If men were allowed as much time off as women, on equal terms and the uptake was encouraged then, over time, attitudes would change. It would no longer be a case of (mainly male) bosses seeing women taking time off to have children in a negative light because men would be doing it in equal measure. Women wouldn't be falling behind in pay and promotions due to time off for maternity leave etc because men would be doing it in equal number. Throw in free childcare from the age of one and Bobs your uncle.
  21. Why? Was she black? ---------- Post added 22-02-2018 at 11:12 ---------- We don't really need to fear them because they won't shoot us for scratching our arse, being deaf, black or even the victim of a practical joke. They will arrest you if you break the law though.
  22. This is already a thing. I introduce you to FasterSavesLives. Lovely. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-43118865
  23. They seem to manage for fine 104 days of the year* and most of the rest of the days without causing death and destruction. I refer, again, to post 169. * for most bus lanes. The 24/7 ones are very clearly marked.
