  1. Looks like a good read and a very relevant topic right now. "Our Western politicians avoid mentioning the R word (religion), and instead characterize their battle as a war against 'terror', as though terror were a kind of spirit or force, with a will and a mind of its own. Or they characterize terrorists as motivated by pure 'evil'. But they are not motivated by evil. However misguided we may think them, they are motivated, like the Christian murderers of abortion doctors, by what they perceive to be righteousness, faithfully pursuing what their religion tells them. They are not psychotic; they are religious idealists who, by their own lights, are rational. They perceive their acts to be good, not because of some warped personal idiosyncrasy, and not because they have been possessed by Satan, but because they have been brought up, from the cradle, to have total and unquestioning faith." 2. I tried it once in Tunisia during Ramadan whilst I was working there. I had the breakfast before sunrise which was a sweet milky porridge made of cous-cous with dates in it. It was very nice.... It worked too, I didn't feel hungry all day since it sat in my stomach like a lead football.
  3. Can we have an option to vote for less disabled parking spaces please? They're always half empty!
  4. I spend a lot of time in muslim countries and I've asked this question of a few people over the years. The answer is that they would follow the timing in Mecca, ie: Saudi Arabia, or the timing of their country of origin if they were recent immigrants. The idea is to fast, not to die! PottS

  11. You could try Parcel2go who are cheaper than Royal Mail/Parcelfarce and will pick up from your house. You can order a delivery online at http://www.parcel2go.co.uk/ I've used them to ship to the USA and they're quicker and cheaper than the Post Office options.
  12. I once sold a whole computer on eBay, box, monitor, speakers, keyboard. Boxed it all up and posted it for 30 quid.
  13. When I took my father to see the specialist to check for dementia/Alzheimers the consultant immediately withdrew his driving license. My father had done rather well in the memory test that is used, but the fact that he had needed an appointment was enough. He was given the option to retake the driving test to regain his license, but this never happened as my fathers dementia rapidly worsened. The consultant was right to withdraw his licence as fathers driving had been erratic for a few years before this.
  14. Seems like the pope called Buddhists a load of ******s too! "Famously, the then Cardinal Ratzinger once referred to Buddhism as a form of masturbation for the mind - a remark still repeated among deeply offended Buddhists more than a decade after he said it." http://www.guardian.co.uk/pope/story/0,,1875791,00.html
  15. Wright's Coal Tar.... errr, can you still get that stuff or is it now considered carcinogenic??
  16. I wish they would show the Brass Eye special again since I missed it first time round and I don't see it getting repeated. Why is Chris Morris not on our screens with any new stuff. Is he effectively banned now??
  17. I can't just check on new posts anymore - I have to sign in and opt into the forum areas I wish to view. I liked it the old way when I could look at all the new posts with just one click. I can't stay logged into one computer because i share it with others. Pants!

  22. Just spent 1 1/2 hours in a jam because of the bike race - everywhere is jammed up round the centre. It was the Tour of Britain bike race. I don't see why they have to hold a sporting event on public roads. I wonder how many extra tons of carbon were emitted because of all the traffic jams? Don't they have cycle tracks they can race on?
