The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]
RJRB replied to mort's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
But we can trade with other countries collectively through the EU. Germany manages to export approaching £100billion to China under current rules which is about 6 times our figure. I would love to think that our share of these major markets could be increased under new trade deals, but what are we going to make or supply to achieve such growth. -

If I wanted to hyperbolise I would have said mountain. The major trading nations that we hope will be open to us are the most protectionist and aggressive in the developed world. -
Depends what’s best for your area. Sky is poor on our road, but excellent speeds close by. BT total package suits me at the moment.

Once you start falling off a cliff it’s difficult to arrest the fall. Particularly when the Mogg and Boris are pushing you. -
The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]

In politics no one wants to lose face, apologise or be accused of doing a U turn. We will now be heading for A custom union,as opposed to THE custom union. Whatever. We will certainly be paying more in the medium turn for imported goods and the benefits,if any will be very long term. -

Geopolitics is just a range of factors for people to consider in arriving at a viewpoint. Nothing magical. All I am asking is what benefit do you see from Brexit.Succinctly. Or do I have to set Paxman and Humphries on you. -

The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]
RJRB replied to mort's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
My thoughts : No reason. Some facts ,some fiction, some opinion all presented with the necessary spin to suit a particular leaning. All we can do is to go with our beliefs and instinct. On the subject of which,I have been waiting for months for someone to explain the main benefits that we shall get from leaving the EU. Just to add “ “Remain in a nutshell” Wewill continue to have some respect and influence within Europe and therefore the world. -

I think that you two should really meet up ,together with your i pads for ready reference, and stop trying to outdo each other with your breadth of knowledge. I hope that our negotiators and the Civil servants are as clued up. Just go with your gut instinct. Will we be any better off outside the EU. I don’t see why we should be. -
The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]
RJRB replied to mort's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
Is this supposed to be some form of conclusive argument against economic forecasts. We should all know that every comment is going to get the full spin treatment.Thats what politicians do. My own reasoning supports our full and enthusiastic partnership within the EU. May seems to be trying to pacify her Brexit hardliners with her latest views on an instant change of status for EU migrants come 2019. Supposedly this will prevent a further million immigrants to the U.K. This will backfire on the UK as we strive to isolate ourselves from Europe. All so needless. -
Private Parking Ticket Megathread (Part 2)
RJRB replied to kirkbylad's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
I use this car park quite often and noticed the other day that the middle section seemed to have changed in that a barrier had been removed ,which used to delineate the end of the public parking section. It seems that this section opposite the rear wall of Iceland might now be included in the no parking area. Am I correct because there are no longer marked parking bays there. Another sneaky move to catch the unsuspecting? -
Keeping ahead of the game or found out?

Have you got the past and present directors of Carillion in there as well? Should that now just be past? A glass door I believe is a door made of glass

The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]
RJRB replied to mort's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
At least some pro Brexit Government spokesman should be able to step up to the mark and argue that their pursuit of Brexit is not solely based on future economic probabilities. What I want to know is what are the other reasons? The cry for a second referendum will continue because it makes no sense to wilfully damage our future. -
The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]
RJRB replied to mort's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
The time, effort and expense spent in trying to achieve the least worst outcome of the Brexit referendum would be laughable if it wasn’t so serious. We are heading for all the disadvantages with no tangible benefits. It’s excruciating watching our politicians trying to position themselves to secure their own positions in the face of public opinion. What happened to leadership? -

But on the plus side .........sorry I can’t think of anything. Oh yes we can make our own laws. Making laws is the easy part, applying them is tricky. Similar to control of our borders. -

The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]
RJRB replied to mort's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
Seems that Theresa will remain as PM by default. She assumed the position by steering a non offensive course whilst other contenders self destructed or stabbed each other in the back. Not unusual in the Tory party. Despite being under severe pressure from both the hard and soft Brexiters I doubt that anyone will make a move because the next incumbent will still be unable to attain any sort of unity in the party. Meanwhile the Brexit business is all consuming while the real issues of the NHS,Housing, the armed forces, etc suffer.
