As I asked before, Anna, who is going to pay for said buses, crews, fuel, ,maintenance,  administration...?

This is all about knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing...

Public Transport is an essential service. We live in an economy where people have to travel to work, etc. When the means of that travel is not available, or too expensive to make it worth while you have a serious problem.

As a country we hope to achieve 'growth,' in the future. That comes with investment in both infrastructure and people. Cutting back is not always the way forward. Too much emphasis is put on profit for the few. All the above; crews, administration, maintainance etc provides employment for taxpaying people and a service for more taxpaying people. So more goes into the coffers. and the economy grows.

We also pay council tax, and numerous other taxes, vat etc. Don't we have a right to expect that to be used in the interests of the people who pay it, and for the betterment of the city/country?

You do realise council tax is a fraction of the budget of a local authority, dont you?

This has already been explained numerous times. Go and look at Transport for London and the amount they have needed in bailouts.

So what do you suggest, and who benefits?

These gents have been happily paying for their ride home to Ecclesfield on the last 8.  It's disappearance (without full info being published everywhere online yesterday) was what caused the confusion.

Then in my experience those gents are a rarity.  Pretty much everytime I've been on a bus and the driver has told an OAP that their pass isn't valid (usually ones trying it on before 0930) they're met with "oh but others let us" or a look that would make you think the driver asked them to murder their own children, crushing their belief that their pass is a god-given right and not the privilege with caveats it is.

As @RollingJ asked and you've attempted to swerve it like a typical blind Labour supporter, where are the funds coming from to pay for it all.

As I've said, numerous times in this thread alone, there is NO PROFIT in South Yorkshire. Profit is ESSENTIAL to investment.

You obviously know nothing of economics.

I suggest only viable services run and a small number are subsidised as per the current model. If people want a door to door service there are things called "taxis", or they get a car, or heaven forbid they walk a few hundred yards to access the bus.
