Ukraine: Invasion Imminent?

Perhaps during the Trump years he should have spent more time beefing up the defences of the States bordering Russia and strengthening NATO.

His message was always to put up the ramparts around the US borders.

Build that wall meant more than the Mexican border.

Nonsense!

His one CONSISTENT demand was that the NATO countries should come up with their promised fair share of their own defense costs (U.S. had around 300,000 U.S. Service Men and Women based in Europe, to prevent the enlightened socialist moral supremacists ,many of whom have no love for America, from killing each other again).

They were delinquent, getting a free ride. And they brag about all the 'free stuff" they give their citizens.

And they did pay up!

Lol

Can't understand why he's been 'gagged',  is our free speech going to be limited in future?

Isn't he entitled to his opinion?

I don't see any suggestion that anyone other than him deleted his posts. If a group he's a representative of thinks his exercising his free speech reflects badly on them it's not unreasonable for them to ask him to choose between sticking by his opinions or remaining a member. That he chose the latter shows were his priorities lie. Freedom of speech has never meant freedom from consequences of speech.

I hope that is clear to his constituents then.  My MP is Sir Graham Brady (Chairman of the 22 Club) I shall be asking him if there has been a precedence regarding this.

Andrew Pierce on LBC talking about helping refugees from Ukraine. When the refugees are brown he wants them processed in the area they come from.

He's typical of the type of Tory I can't stand.

The whole rhetoric needs toning down. Russians aren't bad people they're the same as anyone else. Putin isn't an insane manic wanting to conquer the world. I believe he feels he is protecting his own country, whether that's the right conclusion or not, it's what he genuinely thinks.

All the keyboard warriors encouraging Ukrainians to take up arms are stupid if they don't realise this will result in their deaths. A nation like Russia won't be defeated by a dad's army of willing volunteers. Civilian death are about to spiral.

The way this is going we will end up in a world war. Russia isn't alone. They have allies. If China enters the conflict then we are in trouble. I'm making a list of all the journalists encouraging Ukrainians to take up arms and I'll remind them if it happens to us.

My guess is Russian allies are China, Iran, N. Korea, Syria, some baltic states and probably some middle east countries. Pakistan also has close links to Russia. Imagine what will happen if the UK ends up in a war with Pakistan. All this is long away but crazy things happen, they have before.

I hope our troops don't start collapsing with heart problems, if they do the conspiracy theory will be complete.

Politicians are generally expected to tow the party line. Parties do let some minor things go but the more views are likely to embarrass the party as a whole the less likely they are to be tolerated. Imagine a politician advocated for sex between adults and children being legalised. Do you think the party they belonged to would be being reasonable to expel that person for those views or do you think their free speech was being infringed?

re Altus post:

There's a difference between the man giving his take on the situation which is being discussed - I don't think you should bring sex into  the thread,  wouldn't what you gave as an example be an a matter for the police anyway?

The Russians aren't bad people but Putin is. Having presided over Russia turning into a kleptocracy, he wants to rebuild the Russian/Soviet Empire. Imagine if a British leader wanted to rebuild the British Empire.

China only has its own interests at heart, they aren't going to join a war to help Putin out. N. Korea get help from China not Russia so they won't either. Pakistan has traditionally had close links with the west (e.g. buying military equipment from them), it's India that leaned towards Russia, although they've been increasingly building their own stuff. The only Baltic states that aren't already in NATO are Sweden and Finland - no chance of them joining with Russia (and Putin has just threatened them if they seek to join NATO). The only bit of the Baltic that isn't NATO aligned is the enclave of Kaliningrad but that's part of Russia anyway.
