iansheff   89 #1 Posted January 31, 2018 Just seen the article below about Hannah Hauxwell passing away, anyone remember seeing the programme about her life on the farm and how bleak things were? I remember watching it when she had to go down to the stream and break the ice to get water. There were follow up programmes as well when the tv company took her abroad.  https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/iconic-dales-farmer-hannah-hauxwell-dies-at-91-1-8991754  https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/image-gallery/hannah-hauxwell-through-the-decades-in-pictures-1-3353123/3353128/img13353122
 Share this content via...
Olive   10 #2 Posted January 31, 2018 Blimey, I assumed she'd passed away years ago. She looked a lot older than she actually was when the programmes were made. I can remember my parents talking about her. I think she struck a chord with my family- some of my more distant farming relatives lived lives not that far removed from Hannah Hauxwell. No mod cons, no electricity, even as late as the 80s.
 Share this content via...
