Post Brexit Racism.

Eastern Europeans are predominantly Slavs. The Nazis certainly saw them as being of a different race, as you'll see if you read that article.

I thought there was only four main races, Caucasian, Asian, Black and Aboriginal (can't remember correct terminology of aboriginal)

We all know how hitler thought!! no need to go there :)

People are suggesting that the vote to leave somehow legitimised racism and lifted the stigma that kept the racist in check. I don't think that is it. If racism is less of a taboo now (and it would appear people are being more open about how they feel) then it is because the words 'racist', 'bigot' and 'xenophobe' have been over used and misused until people no longer feared the accusation and the words lost their potency. Some of us have been warning that this would happen for years.

Instead of listening to concerns about immigration they have been ignore and dismissed with one of the aforementioned labels. It didn't make the concerns go away and it just made people more angry. Anger has been festering for years and now we have voted to leave the EU (who dictate an immigration policy people don't want) and the most racist are becoming openly hostile.

It is indeed a sad situation but blaming it on unscrupulous politicians and right wing media is wrong. The politicians and media reflect public opinion and aren't shaping it. The people responsible for increased racism are the 'racist' shouters and the politicians who do not respect the will of the majority. The liberal-left want to ignore the majority opinion for ideological reasons and the right want to ignore it because big business want them to. Using the excuse that 'we mustn't give in to the racists' is crap. We must give in to the majority and if that pleases racists then we're going to just have to live with that.

How do you explain the massive increase in racist incidents taking place Zamo if not through the exit vote?

You might not be racist, but your vote and opinion have enabled the racists and in their opinion their behaviour has been validated.

The idea that racism used to be less acceptable is clearly nonsense. It used to be mainstream. It's apparently just been hidden in a minority of people now, and they no longer feel like they need to hide it thanks to the exit vote.

So how do you explain the huge increase in racism reports to the police. Racism being less of a taboo due to overuse of the words is complete and utter nonsense.

What we are seeing is pure and simple stupidity, stupid kids and thick racists that think they now have a platform to shout. Just like some years ago the stupid kids in London gained a platform to riot and plunder their way to a new Playstation.

You would do well to distance yourself from that.

Re: the video from the Manchester Tram

Police have confirmed that this shocking incident of racial abuse took place on a tram in Manchester early this morning.

Police have called it “a disgusting display of abuse which quite frankly has no place in society” – and have urged eyewitnesses to come forward.

Racists no doubt feel emboldened by a vote that makes it clear the majority of people in this country have had enough of their immigration concerns being ignored. It is unfortunate but what's the alternative? Should the majority who voted to Leave have put aside their concerns about uncontrolled mass immigration in order to spite and silent a few racists? Even if you think they should have it is unrealistic to expect it.

Voting to leave means we can better control immigration and when that eventually happens it will appease the vast majority of people. Yes, we'll still have racists (as does every culture/nation) but they'll be an insignificant minority rejected by the majority. It is the only way to put racism back in the box. If we carry on ignoring how most people feel about immigration then anger and frustration is only going to deepen and the racism will get worse.

already has, my kids have come home with some unpleasant tales

I had a chat with my daughter this morning to see if there might be any issues at her school.

No problems, it seems. There are only a few children of immigrants, and they all seem to get on really well. Hope it stays like that.

But of course not every area is the same, and some parts of he city and the country have different issues and very different demographics and concerns.

Where problems exist, I hope they can be resolved. It must be gut wrenchingly upsetting to feel unwelcome in your own home, let alone being harrassed, threatened or worse.
