Co-op stores sold off to Budgens.

Recommended Posts

I have just read that the co-op have sold 36 ex Somerfield stores to Budgens, one of these in Sheffield, does anyone know which one? As far as I am aware with the recent closure of Firth Park there is only Ecclesall Road and Pinstone Street that could be involved.

Pinstone Street, the new signs are already up and it opens on Saturday.

Unfortunately the staff in that Co-Op on Pinstone St will just transfer over to the new company, in my experience the staff in that branch are some of the rudest, miserable and ignorant staff I have ever encountered in retail.

So they're not "Good with Food", despite the signs?

Not good with anything in my experience of going in there.

As an aside, the Co-Op petrol station at the bottom of East Bank Road (?) behind the B&Q is closing next week as well, for a week, as someone new has bought it. The lass did tell me who had bought it but I had never heard of them.

I have just found out that around 240 co-op stores are being sold to McColls from what I hear there are a few of the stores in Sheffield that are part of the package, does anyone know which stores are effected?

My thoughts are with the staff at these stores as many co-op colleagues are long serving and dedicated to the co-op, and also with the customers who are going to loose a trusted local store.

And possibly a better fit in the areas they trade, McColls certainly don't sell the fresh ranges that the co-op sell.

Not good news McColls as far as I'm concerned certainly seem a more downmarket offering.

The one on Pinstone Street is now a Waitrose I think. Must have happened very quickly. The coke snorting, prostitute buying, Christian former chief exec of Co-Op really screwed it over.
