martss
The hammers are on the River Don Works site but don't belong to Forgemasters anymore, I think the company is called Alcoa, I was on nights last night at Forgemasters and when the hammers are going it makes your tea ripple, Jurassic Park style! Daven
yes you can sometimes hear the thuds of the drop hammers at night, think its pretty cool personally When I was working the night shift at NGH in the late 70's and early 80's there was always the background noise of the drop hammers during the night. I always found it strangely reassuring that there was someone else out there working during the night like I was.
neilf
Definitely drop hammers. Used to be my night time lullaby when I was a kid growing up in Pitsmoor!
tzijlstra
I hear these frequently, just wondering, what is a drop hammer? I only hear it go once every so often, is that because it is more like a cutter that splits hot steel, or?

jaffa1
There were a lot of work going on through the night in Oughtibridge with the removal of the top surface of the main road and re-tarmacing it. I believe they were working all through the night as the road is closed from 7pm to early morning. I suppose some noise could have travelled to Grenoside.
