Gordonb
Fairness is a big issue in Sheffield which is probably the most polarised city in the the country, The Hallam Constituency(Eccleshall,Dore Millhouses) is acknowledged as one of the most prosperous areas, outside of London/Southeast. Then we have the North/North East of the city (Parson Cross, Shiregreen,Southey Green etc) one of the poorest. Also the discrepancy in life expectancy is getting up to 10 years between the areas, with the north side obviously the loser. Or this could be seen as the south side obviously the winner

alchresearch
There's nothing to stop her or anyone on the council signing up and replying. Back when this forum started there used to be Q&A sessions with leading city figures.
chapowlo
The money will only be available for 1 year then cut again, why not fund the Childrens service by another £1 million and give them another year to help the most affected by poverty the children or alternatively fund Stocksbridge leisure centre for a transitionla period to allow them to take over a perfectly acceptable community resource. Well that doesn't cost very much and it allows better access for people to their local councillors to raise issues with them.
Doom
According to Radio Sheffield they will be debating the demolition of Don Valley Stadium tomorrow, with the likelihood that they will vote in favour of knocking it down. Have we finished paying off the interest yet on this little hobby horse of Labours?....Talk about wasting our money......It makes my blood boil. If they're struggling to find uses for it I suggest they try a bit harder with concerts, cricket etc. It would just about sum up the short sighted thinking of our Council if they knocked the stadium down and then a city wide 20/20 cricket tournament was set up and we ended up being the only major city to miss out due to the lack of a suitable facility. It's not just about finances though, it's also about the impact it has on people. How many people have been inspired one way or another due to Don Valley Stadium. The obvious one is Jess Ennis. Would her athletics career have developed to the same level had she been training at a lesser venue? On the back of her success Jess is probably a very wealthy woman who spends her money in her home city, helping to boost the local economy....That's the invisible financial impact of DVS. A crazy decision from a crazy Council. Regards Doom

The only problem I can see with that is that Leeds just appears to be more attractive to accommodate concerts and cricket, they're riding on their wave of popularity and regeneration.
