Planner1 Posted November 2, 2012 Share Posted November 2, 2012 There used to ample street parking in some of the industrial backstreets round this area (most not in any use after 5/6pm) but they have been slapped with double yellow lines for no reason whatsoever. Double yellow lines, or restrictions of any kind are NEVER put down for "no reason whatsoever". There is always a very good reason for it. It costs the Council thousands of pounds to implement the restrictions and they have many things they could spend the money on, so there has to be a good reason to do it. No doubt some on here think it's a great conspiracy to fleece the motorist. And, if the cost of implementing is larger than the money raised from fines then it is no doubt an elaborate scheme to deliberately waste council money! It costs the TAX PAYER thousands of pounds for the local jobsworths to hold hours of pointless meeting (keeping them in their important, highly paid jobs), just to paint a few bobs worth of yellow paint in inappropriate places. That's the 'very good reason'! Irrespective of what you may think, the Council staff are very busy and simply don't have time to do things just for the hell of it. They have many other priorities. If the council can force people to use overpriced car parks because everywhere is yellow lined they will soon recoup (and more) the cost of the lining in the first place, this epidemic of yellow lines has markedly increased in the greed is good days of now, why had these roads not been a problem to park on for the previous 30yrs. As you say in your signature ... it's your view, not the Council's (and a good job too). Any right minded person can plainly see the Council hasn't the foggiest idea what they're doing ... pen pushing for pen pushing sake, just to waste money and keep a job. Look what they've done to Social Services, who's bright idea was it to turn Western Park Museum into a kindergarten, colour in the Le Corbusier inspired Park Hill flats (something he'd turn in his grave at), call 'Christmas' 'Winterval' (or whatever), have no Art Gallery ... the list's endless. Isn't Western Park Museum a charitable Trust, and not controlled by the council? Aren't the Park Hill flats owned by Urban Splash? Isn't "Winterval" a tabloid myth? In the Centertainment area, there are plenty of side streets whenre you can still park. Parking at junctions is not safe or desirable, so there will be double yellow lines there. as othes have already ponted out, it's an industrial area and companies often get deliveries or send out goods needing large vehicles, ther eneeds to be space fo rthese to access the premises, so waiting restrictions are needed. The amount of development in that area has increased massively over the years. The Council moved into offfices just across the road at Carbrook while Meadowhall was being built, there was literally nothing else in the area. Look at it now. A lot of people work in the area and visit it, parking on street is allowed in areas where it is safe and won't cause disruption. In case you haven't noticed, there are no "expensive" car parks in that area, so the Council are not trying to force people into them. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
