Ghozer
short answer.... yes.. long answer, how do i know, because i'm one of them.... to an extent... i can only afford 1 meal per day, and thats only things like a loaf of bread to last the week, and a tin of soup each day... at best... the circumstances which have led me here have all ben out of my control, down to a 3rd partys failings or issues caused by someone else... i'm surviving, getting there... but also could be homeless very shortly, as i have to find somewhere to move to and move out of my current place by the end of the month... and with not currently working this is proving very difficult since i cannot go private rent (cannot afford a deposit, and most private won't accept DSS) - i am on council waiting list, and have been for two years, but this is still difficult... theres various other factors which i can't go into on here but that should give you an idea... Alien52
Is there any wonder people are rioting..? Would these be the rioters of this summer who were starving so they stole TVs and trainers ?
Anna B
Is there any wonder people are rioting..? Would these be the rioters of this summer who were starving so they stole TVs and trainers ? There were lots of people with many different agendas involved in the London riots. The media focused almost entirely on the looters. Similarly there has been an almost total media blackout about the occupy wall street campaign in America (although that might change now it's reached London) and about what the demonstraters have acheived in countries like Greece and France. Anna B
In Greece they have got several government concessions regarding corruption. Time will see if they stand firm on them. In France all I know is that now, if your house is reposessed, all the debt is cancelled, (ie no negative equity) where as here, if your house is reposessed, you end up still owing many thousands of pounds, even if the house is resold. There are others but I can't remember what they are.
cressida
It doesn't help when one sees a picture in the newspaper of a banker sticking his tongue out at the makeshift campsite btw excellent posts AnnaB

Hare Krishnas are usually good at providing a meal, and I'm sure there's cheap or possibly free food put on a napoleons asino, just look like you are about to gamble! Keith Rich
It was on the news the other day that charities have set up food banks in various places round the country for people with no money. They can get a carrier bag of food for free to stop them starving. This is Britain in the 21st century, and the government should be ashamed. In spite of the media continually trying to make us think that benefit recipients are living the high life, this is the reality. There are more homeless living on the street, more children living in poverty, and I suspect there will be more old people dying of hyperthermia this winter, especially if it's a hard one. Meanwhile the bankers continue to trouser billions, and the people at the top, and those in power still have their corrupt little snouts in the trough and are doing very nicely thankyou. But we're all in this together don't forget... Well said Anna, Fraid the situation will only get worse in the coming years. People are becoming more greedy, corrupt and less caring about others due to the evils of Capitalism. Even when people are multi millionnaires they still want more money. In a way it's sad because they can't even recognise what they have become.
