  1. Thanks. I have spoken to Mum and she doesn't want to make a formal complaint at this point. She is due to go in again on Thursday and if she has the same experience again has said she will make the formal complaint then.
  2. What a stir this post has caused! I posted to vent my anger about a situation I felt I could not have much influence on. There are too many posts now for me to reply individually to but i would like to make the following points. (most of which other people have commented on anyway.) I was not criticising the nursing staff I was criticizing a) the booking in system- I understand it is the surgeons who dictate everyone must come in at 7am. Why not have half the people for that day coming in at 1pm? Also if someone is not operated on that day surely they should be given an alternative day there and then? b) the facilities in the waiting area. - No relatives were allowed in with the patients, the chairs were uncomfortable, the TV didn't work, there was no heating in the waiting room. (This is why the patients were given a blanket by the nursing staff, & why they were then moved to a warmer waiting room in the afternoon). As a former employee of the NHS I know how difficult it is to make changes happen in such a large organisation, but if issues are not pointed out to the relevant people nothing will improve. I don't think one-sided press articles are the correct way of airing these problems in the system so I will not be replying to the PMs I have had from journalists and local radio employees. Airing our views on SF however stimulates interesting debate and whilst some people make silly, personal digs at others without the facts, most people make valid, informed comments and as you can see the situation my Mum faced is not an isolated case. Mum has now been contacted by the hospital and given a date next week, again to go in at 7am. If she doesn't have her operation on that day and has a similar experience to last time I will be making a formal complaint to the hospital and I will post on here to let you know the outcome of either her operation or the complaint.
  3. This morning after a 12 week wait my 71 year old mum went into the NGH for a scheduled gall bladder operation. She had to be there at 7am and couldn't have anything to eat or drink since last night. No one could wait with her, and we were told to call the hospital at 12noon to see if she had gone down for her operation. My sister had taken the day off work to be on standby to pick her up after the operation. We called the hospital at 12 and she was still waiting. Mum txt me at 3 to say she was still in the waiting room with a blanket around her and she was freezing cold. At 5:15pm Mum was told they wouldn't be able to do the op today and they would write to her giving her another date. She has head ache and back ache with sitting on the upright chairs for 10 hours Mum has respiritary & heart problems and has had the trauma of going in to the hospital, not having anything to eat or drink since yesterday and now the anxiety of having to go through this all again. I appreciate that there may have been an emergency come in today but surely this is not acceptable?

  5. I am interested to know did you use this company and if so were they reliable? Also I am looking to book accommodation in corralejo 12-19 nov if any one has any recommendations
  6. I agree with Steve, in my view the CV is a document to let the employer judge if they want to interview you; once you have secured the interview the CV is less important, it is how you answer the questions and just as importantly what questions you ask the interviewer that make an impression at this stage. You said you research the company before interview, make this obvious in the questions you ask; relate them to recent press releases or about their products or services. Ask questions about what you will be doing day to day, about the viability of the business and about their future plans. What are they trying to achieve by filling this role? You can then point out why you would be good for the company, how your skills and experience match their day to day workload and their future plans. Don't ask about holidays, pension, or money at this stage, that can be covered at 2nd interview. Write your questions down on a pad and take it into the interview with you. jot down their answers and at the end of the interview make sure you thank them for their time and re-iterate that you want the job. A simple sentence stating, "I am really interested in this position, thank you for your time, I really hope to hear from you again soon", said with sincerity and passion goes a long way. I often find people who have been out of work a while do come across as desperate, just wanting any job rather than the particular one you have gone for, try to go in with the mindset that you have to make sure the job is right for you just as much as the other way round and your attitude and demeanour at the interview will change....... hopefully so will the outcome!

I called Churchill back ask them if they wanted to re-quote to keep my business did they say "OH YES" as in the adverts..... did they heck. I am now with LV
  9. If you have an accountant you can use their address as a registered office or there are companies like Aizlewood's Business Centre in town who you can have as your "office address". You can have business post sent there and either have it posted on to you or you can pick it up when you like. They also have a phone answering service available on an as and when basis. I have run my recruitment company for over 20 years& for the first ten we had costly premises in town the 2nd 10 years we have run it on a "virtual office basis" with Directors and Consultants working from home and at our client premises. The staff at the Mill are very helpful and friendly. see http://www.aizlewoodsmill.co.uk/virtual_office_services
  10. I can post a link to your art Felicity. http://www.artwanted.com/artist.cfm?artid=67594
  11. I applied for Swimming (didn't get) handball (got) hockey (got) & OPENING CEREMONY - GOT!!! I am so surprised
  12. I have grown nearly everything in pots. All kinds of herbs & salad, leeks, potatoes, carrots, strawberries, apples, blueberries, beans, peas, tomatoes, peppers & of course flowers. You don't have as many slug, weed or mice problems as when things are grown in the ground. Have fun.
  13. http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=798713 The threads need merging
  14. This year I have grown my potatoes in used compost bags. I dug out one bag of Charlotte yesterday (I had planted two seed potatoes in each and the average size was about 2". There were about 20 potatoes which I thought was OK. (I should have weighed them but was too eager to cook them!) Initially I planted them in about 6" compost with the bag sides rolled down & earthed them up with more compost after they had grown about 4". I then used grass cuttings to almost the top of the bag with a bit of compost to hold it down. The grass cuttings made the bag much lighter to handle than using all compost or soil and I don't think the yield was any less than I had had in previous years. I did water them but no feed. We had them with a smidgeon of butter and chopped mint. Delicious
  15. Had they flowered? I always wait for the flowers to open and drop before digging up my earlies, usually about 13 weeks, but the lack of rain will no doubt make a difference to the size this year.
  16. yes thats correct they wouldn't allocate you anything you hadn't requested
  17. Sounds like I am lucky enough to get some tickets even though I don't know what for yet!!
  18. I have just checked online and have been charged for my application for Olympic Tickets, but have no idea what tickets i have been allocated. We applied for Hockey, Handball, Swimming & the opening ceremony but for the life of me I can't figure out what the combination of tickets are to make the amount that I have been charged. It seems crazy that I may not be informed for 4-5 weeks even though my card has been charged. Has anyone else been succesful in their application?
  19. The blue iris are all but finished where are you jan2665? I may be able to drop some off for you.
  20. B & M & JTF also had the £1 root packs but it may be a little late to plant them now (mine are in flower). If you are anywhere near S11 they sell mature plants at Bents Green Nursery.
  21. I have lots of blue iris that are just coming into bloom. The best time to split them is after they have flowered so if you want to PM me in about 4 weeks they should have finished flowering & I will dig a load up for you. I am at S11 Ecclesall.
  22. I was taught that if you scratch lightly at the stem of a plant you think is dead, ie remove the outer "bark" with your nail, you can tell. If it is completely brown with no green tinge it is most likely dead; any shade of green and there is still life in there. No harm in waiting a while longer before giving up on it anyway is there?
  23. This happens with a lot of variegated plants . In my garden when plants revert I immediately prune out the green shoots in order to maintain the variegation. Left alone it is possible the plant will turn completely green as the green limbs slowly overtake the variegated limbs.
  24. there is a good guide on here http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/todo_now/veg_gard_now.php
  25. Anyone registered on Linkedin should log on today and look at the "people you may know" section............... ....................................then check the calendar!
