  1. Terry Steeples was a true character one of the best landlords ever in Sheffield City Centre, does anyone remeber Mick Nolan the last landlord of the old Mulberry? it closed in about 1975 and was redeveopled the new pub being opened by Mick Lee in late 1976. I worked for all three of these guys and it was a privelidge.
  2. I worked as a security guard during the construction phase of Don Valley Stadium for alocal firm Constant Security. At the time the city was on its knees with the closing of the steelworks and the mines. My boss brought potential from all over the north and midalnds to the site to show them how sheffield was rebuilding itself, he went on about how the organisers of the worls Student games were committed to using local firms to run the games and how good it would be for the local economy. The stadium got built, with no losses due to theft or vandalism and we were looking forward to providing our services to the games themselves, what happened? we got the sack and they brought a firm in from Manchester to do it. Sheffield Council how wonderful you are. I for one will never forgive those who made the games such an emabarrasment. They know who they are.
  3. Why does everyone knock the poor guy, what has he ever done but try to entertain? I have never had the balls to get up on a stage and entertain and i guess neither has many of the "contributors" ,I am no great fan but surely the outpouring of vituperation is a bit much. three cheers for knutty I say
  4. Great landlord Terry, I remember standing outside the Mulberry with Mick Lee when a guy came past and greeted him and had a 10 minute conversation about how great the Black Swan had been in the past etc the man thought that Mick was Terry and they did look alike, Mick being the gentleman he was never let on.
  5. Big Mick Lee at the Mulberry Tavern, Chuck Charlesworth at the Golden Ball, Johnnie Angel at the Cannon. This would be 1975 to 1980 town was never better!
  6. Be careful, I worked for the security firm featured in the film about the stocksbridge bypass ghost. I saw the men it terrorised. It is not funny. They never worked again. One is in a monastery in Canada and one is still under mediacation after nearly 20 years.
  7. The Police Officers concerned included a man called Streets and another called Millichaep bothwho went to jail, They were not allowed to retire. The Sheffield police were under pressure to clear up burglaries and robberies at the time by any means possible. Streets and Millicheap went out drinkning whilst on duty and arrested the Hartleys who were low level criminals and informers. Under the influence they used the Rhino whip on them to abstract confessions and information. The hartleys instructed local solicitoy Roy Barlow to represent them and he took it to the papers. Whilst the careers of a number of Police officers was runined interestingly the information given up by the Hartleys was useful and correct. Roy Barlow went on to become a judge and was known to employ the children of known criminals in his office.

Wayne Chadwick never owned Josephines he worked for Big Mick then went down south for a few years before coming back to Sheff were he did well. Not a pratt hard working guy.
  12. Madonna and Guy Ritchie visit Mexborough about three times a year to visit her old security man and his wife who used to look after the kids. They retired when he became ill.
  13. This is the definitive story of the security guards and the ghost. Two security guards employed by Constant security of Mexborough were working patrolling the road which was still being constructed. About a mile on the tankersley side of peayroyd lane bridge they saw a group of children in medieval costume dancing round a bush. Shocked they carrid on in silence for some distance fianlly stopping near to Pearoyd Bridge. When they attempted to leave the vehicle a large inhuman presence held the drivers, then the passenger side door closed. The presnce behaved in a threatening way then vanished. Both men paniced and went to the local vicarage in a state of terror, they were then sent to the Police station eventually returning to thier office in Mexborough where they were sent home.12 hours later they were interviwed by thier employer who stated that in his opinion they were "traumatized". Neither man has worked again, one lives in barnsley with his family and is under constant medical supervision. the other, affected even more badly lives in a Roamn catholic seminary in montreal where, within the last few years he has received visits from clergymen of the catholic, orthodox and Jewish religions and where in 1994 he was visited by the muslim grand mufti of Jerusalem. I worked with these men and new them well, I have never seen a ghost nor do I particulrly believe in them, however what happened was far from funny and has ruined the lives of to decent ordinary working men.

  15. You can still get the cane a Le Chambre and other establishments in the Attercliffe area. Regarding having chalk thrown at you, I have never heard of that but, as they say, "whatever turns you on"

  19. Licensed Doormen effectively "Police" the night time economy in every town and city in the country, without them we would not have the lively entertainment that we enjoy. The negative comments and abuse above seem to me to emenate from persons not able to handle thier liquor and who, following a sniff of the barmaids apron would conduct themselves in an anti social manner were it not for the presence of our friend the bouncer. Long live the memory of Ronni Crookes patron saint of doormen everywhere.
  20. No georgie was very very drunk, I was in the Mulberry tavern across the road from the Fiesta and Georgie was there with Alex Higgins about noon, I went home at 2 and returned at 7.30 and they were still there! Not many people mention the Mulberry when Big Mick had it, Herol Graham behind the bar and the best looking bar staff in the UK! I always remember the night Ringo Starr Eric Clapton and the McGuinness Flint band came in to see Mick. He had done some roadie/security work for them in the late 60s early 70s and stayed in touch. By the way do you remember the chef from the Fiesta who murdred the prositute in Handsworth. Her name was Edna, forget his.
  21. In 1956 I worked for Arthur Midgely as a "wringer out" Arthur was a one armed window cleaner in the Darnall area.
  22. Georgie Fame appeared thre one night nissed as a pewt and they had to close the cutain on him. He had been drinking in the Mulberry all day with Alex Hurricane Higgins, Mick Lee the landlord threw them out at 10.30 and he was onstage at Midnight off at 5 past.
