  1. Apologies for hijacking a thread!!! I'm bridesmaid for my best mate in August, I've never done this before and never been involved (other than as a guest) in any other weddings!!! My friend has organised her own hen night(s) which is one thing off my 'eeeeek' list, but what do I do about wedding presents? (I'm just coming to the end of my masters degree and only have negative money at the mo) I know she has a wedding list tho I havn't got a copy of it yet. Also, as bridesmaid is there anything else I should be doing that I don't have a clue about??? someone help!!! Em xx
  2. I think plusnet do broadband on a monthly basis and last time i looked there was no set up fee and no download limit http://www.plusnet.co.uk i think!!!!
  3. I do suffer from a long uvula apprently... which is one of the factors that makes me snore I think it can be fairly swollen and sore when i wake in a morning, dunno how to cure it, it just gets better during the day. I'm having it removed sometime next year tho...woohoo!!!
  4. My mum did that once, she had nothing else of value (her phone is a brick and worth less than the petrol) so she left my little bro! dammit she went back for him too... (he was about 20 at the time!!!!!)
  5. Neil, go take your tablets and have a lie down... and STOP THINKING!!!!!!
  6. I agree, the diet and daily life has changed from the past and it does make a difference to health. In my dads case however, there was a history of heart disease in the family and also he carries the gene that sadly makes him produce too much cholesterol and not be able to exercise it off as normal. Consequently when he had the first of his 3 heart attacks and when this was discovered he (and therefore the rest of the family) had to change his diet so that there was NO fat in it that could be avoided. I believe that its because of this that I still have a dad 15 years later.
  7. I've suffered from depression on and off for over 10 years. I've had tablets, counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). The tablets will never cure depression, however they can lift your mood for long enough for you to figure out whats wrong and start to deal with it, youcan then start to come off the tablets and carryon dealing with things that way. Secondly counselling can help you to start identifying whats causing the depression so that you can start to do something about it. However, after both of these things I still suffer from (sometimes severe and long lasting) bouts of depression, so I went back to the doctor and asked for more help, I got referred for CBT and this has helped enormously, its one step on from counselling, once you discover the causes you can then start tackling WHY they make you depressed and you train yourself to think differently about things (it takes time) and consequently the way you react to things also changes. It takes time and hard work, but it does work You don't get anything from your doc these days if you don't ask/demand it. So try to get your friend to go and try it, its not admitting defeat, its just asking for help to conquer!!! Em xx
  8. I've NEVER use Lard my dad had a heart attack when I was 12 ( he was only 43) so ever since then we have all had a very low fat diet, lard was one of the things that ws definately ruled out...forever.. tho I dont really think mum used it much anyway! When it got to cookery lessons at school I was constantly told off for not bringing lard like I was told to, when I explained why they still told me I should bring lard (I never did ) and I thought they were trying to teach us to eat healthily!!!!!
  9. This keeps happening to my b/f, i keep getting 2 or 3 of the same message that he got told hadn't sent. oddly enough it only happens when he's using the 300free texts.....
  10. If/when you find some can you tell us where you got it from I used to use it all the time but the place i got it from closed and i've kinda missed it
  11. You also need to make sure you have gone into 'your options' and 'edit options' and clicked yes on the very last box
  12. Its a healthier alternative to chocolate - no dairy, low fat etc, good for cooking with but not always great to eat on its own. It looks a lot darker than chocolate and tastes a little different but is yummy anyway.
  13. Just a little note I want to add; I got really good GCSEs but my A levels went more than a little pearshaped, a total of 4 points (if you don't count general studies), however I went on to work hard in my own time and got accepted at Sheff Uni for Archaeology (they usually want something like ABB at A level!!!) and went on to get a really decent degree and have never been out of work since. Good exam grades at GCSE and A level aren't the be-all and end-all like they try to tell you when you are taking them. Dont worry about your grades, how many you get etc, so long as you are determined, work hard and do your best all the way through you'll get what you want if you really want it. Lesson over

  15. What kind of a friend would YOU be if you wouldn't inform other friends if someone died!!! Yes they might not turn up to his funeral, but its still polite to let people know, even if they are just online friends they may still care about him just as much. I believe Torin was not asking whether or not to reveal the secrets this person had, but how much could he do within the law to let people know of his passing!
  16. My old camera took normal rechargeable batteries and my new one takes a nice little lithium one. The benefit of the old one was that i could take several sets of spare batteries in case one set ran out. I don't yet have spare batteries for the new camera so if it runs out i'm stuck, however, the lithuim battery does hold its charge MUCH longer than rechargeables ever did. Thats what I've found so far anyway... hope it helps.. Em
  17. I'm currently having lots of arguments with BT over my lack of broadband service. I'm not gonna give up, so far its cost me more in phonecalls and dialup (pay per min) in 3 weeks than I was potentially saving by moving to BT... but I won't rant for now, I'm saving that energy for BT themselves
  18. Yeahh, I know the area I'm heading to and know there's no parking... I was advised to use the park and ride... but i'd still have to drive the majority of the way there first anyway, i still figure the train will be best
  19. Well I'm heading right to the centre of York, just near the station, so I too think thats my best bet so far. Sadly my allergy to beer is enough to stop me having a pint or two before I go home (oh and also that I'm legless after a half when I do drink it!!!)
  20. Ironically enough my work placement is with English Heriitage's aerial photography team... maybe i could request a lift
  21. My degree in archaeology at THE uni should technically have prepared me for a job within archaeology at the end of it. However, as far as I'm concerned the compulsory 5 weeks of fieldwork and extra 28 days independent (and somehow related) work do not prepare you for much of a job (despite the fact that you are more likely to be employed if you have a sheffield degree then any other university - in archaeology anyway;) ) Personally I made myself go out and get as much work experience as i could before and during my degree (and still occasionally volunteer for things now) and in the end thats what has got me the jobs i've had since. From what i've heard, SHU does seem to prepare people more for the real world than THE uni but i think that come from the backgrounds of both universites (THE uni being academic and SHU being a Poly).
  22. Well I worked 5 mins off Jn40 and live 5 mins from Jn35 so you got my full journey times. To the centre of Wakefield add another 10 mins at least, 15 or 20 for term time (there's a large 'posh' school right in the centre of Wakefield)!
  23. Thanks, I wondered what that bit would be like too. I was figuring the train would be the best option. Any idea what route it takes? what are the stations between here and York? (just being nosy really) Em
