  1. I think the people that should be moved on are the 'God is Coming/Jesus Wants you for a Sunbeam/The End is Nigh/Christ and all his little Goblins Hate Poofs' crowd.
  2. There's a reclamation place in Killamarsh which might be worth a try.
  3. Only recently noticed that this forum was here, so thought I'd post a few of my photos. I don't claim to have all that much skill to speak of, but I'm quite happy with the way most of these came out. First, some close-up 'nature' shots : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/IMG_1120.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/IMG_1126.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/IMG_1130.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/IMG_1145.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/IMG_3354.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/IMG_3531.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/IMG_3545copy.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/IMG_3551.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/IMG_3553copy.jpg An 'atmospheric' picture of Millhouses Park : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/MillhousesPark.jpg A couple of pictures taken in Budapest : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/LampParliamentProcessed.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/Statue.jpg A couple from Venice : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/IMG_2956.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/Venice2.jpg And lastly, my favourite, the Blue Mosque in Istanbul : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/phlegmatist/Photos/BlueMosqueLomo.jpg Hope you like ! Grateful for any feedback. Simon
  4. A group of us went there a while back, and it was absolutely unbearable. If it hadn't have been for really wanting to see what we'd gone for (which was a one-night-only thing) we would have surely had to leave.
  5. I'm looking to get a stylised dragon in the style of Argentinian Filetado Porteno artwork (which is pretty similar to Gypsy/Romany paintwork in this country); has a very colourful painterly style, with lots of scrollwork etc Yes, I guess the obvious thing is to go round and visit places, particularly as what I'm after has quite a specific look, so will need an artist with a particular style.
  6. So, what advice can people give about deciding which shop to go to ? I will be getting my first tattoo in the next couple of months or so; I know pretty much what I want, and have quite a bit of reference material, but will need the final individual design tidied up and custom drawn from my ideas. From ploughing through this thread, the frontrunners (sorry, I know there are other's in addition to these) appear to be Feline, Eternal Ink, Q in Orchard Sq, Art-Thou, Inkredible, and Dragon. Short of rolling a dice, I'm not sure how to narrow this list down, even less pick one. Most of these appear to have email addresses; are they likely to be willing to give initial advice/ideas via email, if I sent them some of my reference images and described what I'm looking for ? Simon
  7. You would need to walk round and past the Waitrose petrol station onto London Road. Can't quite visualise whether the closest stop would be to the left or the right; there's a stop outside St Mary's house, to the left, and one sort of opposite the three blocks of flats to the right, but can't remember whether there are any other's in between.
  8. I have seen them in Maplins but only once; not before or since, so assume it's not one of their standard stock items.
  9. What is the deal with cabbages today ? I assume it's some sort of awareness campaign for something, or a charity thing. There are cabbages in River Island's window display, and in Boots they've got a cabbage on each of the checkouts (I'm not referring to the staff !). Anyone know what's going on, or have I started hallucinating cabbages ?
  10. Unusally, this works well for me : whereas currently a day ticket (£3) is marginally less than two £1.60 singles, under this new structure the singles going down to £1.40 will be cheaper than the new day ticket of £3.50.
  11. 'Hole on Abbeydale Road' - the council are looking into it. (Sorry, couldn't resist)
  12. Never quite understood why any woman would go to places like Debenhams and even more so John Lewis unless they want to look like a tangoed clown.
  13. I'm originally from Norfolk - I could be wrong, but I suspect that this is due to the Royal Train going to King's Lynn for the Q and family's trip to Sandringham. For the same reason, the short road from Kings Lynn to Sandringham is one of the best kept (in terms of surfacing, hedgerows etc) in the country.
  14. I do agree that the general standard of service, stock etc in Archer Road Sainsbury has been going down. Thing is, it seems to me to have been a pretty gradual slow decline - one small thing here, another little thing there - so it hasn't always been obvious; until, that is, the point they're at now where all those little things finally add up to an overall bad shopping experience. One aspect, though, that has been dreadful in there from the outset is the staff/service on the cigarette/newspaper counter. I've often wondered whether they are deliberately trying to recreate the slow-motion sequences from Chariots of Fire, or whether they're making some sort of stop-animation film.
  15. Was it the 1:30 show ? If so, we went to the same one, and came out saying exactly the same thing. Thank goodness I at least know one or two 'nice' teenagers as at least I can keep at least some faith that they're not all like those little s0ds in the cinema yesterday. As well as the noise/kicking the backs of chairs in front/chatting etc I couldn't believe the state of the floor when I walked out. Someone mentioned what a waste of money it seems to go to the cinema just to muck about - well, add to that the cost of buying popcorn and then throwing the majority of it around, which is what most of them appeared to have done. At the risk of sounding like an old fuddy-duddy, it really is down to the total lack of respect for elders/teachers/staff/parents/adults in general etc. Whilst child-rights are obviously important in cases of abuse, where I think it went wrong was when we universally started treating children as young adults - which they are not, there is no such thing - and became somehow afraid of disciplining children. Anyway, rant over - at least the film itself was pretty d@mn good.
  16. Roadworks closing off one lane along London Road - looked to me as though the workmen were settling in for a good few days' work :-(
  17. Actually, just realised - I was concentrating on your MOT example rather than photo's - of course, that arguably is a contraction so I'm not sure now I think it's one of those examples that, over time, has become so familar in its contracted form that indication of contraction/abbreviation is no longer required - similar to 'bus for omnibus, and p'ram' for perambulator
  18. Indeed - no apostrophe required. And, if you think about it, if it was used to denote ommission in something like MOT's then it would actually be M'O'T's. Arguably, as an acronym, it could be M.O.T. but that has become somewhat unfashionable over the last few years; but it's not a contraction, such as didn't or can't etc.
  19. Many thanks for all your replies. I live in Millhouses. Someone has suggested RCA to me, as they've always been reliable for them, so I may well go with them, or give Mercury the opportunity to prove themselves. Knowing me, I'll be awake and/or up really early anyway so, touch wood, will have time to ring them to confirm the booking and (if necessary) for them to send a car anyway, should they have 'lost' the booking. Simon
  20. Hi I'm catching a train at 5.30 am ( ) on Thursday so want to book a taxi to the station. I normally use Mercury for taxis, but have heard that they can be unreliable with regard to bookings (as opposed to 'come as soon as you can'). Does anyone have any particular recommendations for companies that are good a) on bookings and b) that early in the morning ? Cheers Simon
  21. Do A-boards really make any difference in any case ? I can't remember the last time, if ever, that I paid the slightest bit of notice to what one said. If you can't tell what the deal is with a particular shop - what they sell etc - by looking at the shop front, an annoying plank of wood stuck in your path isn't really going to help much.
