  1. I remember Mrs Duffield from the 1950s, her son Gavin attended the school too. She was a lovely woman, I believe she was from Ceylon.
  2. Todays youth do not want to get their hands dirty, do not want to work more that 20 hours per week, do not want to do any kind of physical work and want £300 plus for doing nothing. Up to my 40s both my wife and myself were working 68 hours per week seven days per week, we still went out every night and we were never late for work. Our normal hours were 39, but we were always busy so we worked over to get orders out.
  3. I agree they are convenient but why do drivers complain about traffic when its in there own hands to solve, oh yes THE BUSES ARE DISGUSTING UNLIKE HULLEYS OF BASLOW this matter needs addressing.
  4. That's very true, you can see queues of cars every morning with just one person in them, why? Drivers crib about I cant park here, I cant park there and they clog the town up by just nipping into town to do a bit of shopping, why cant they catch the bus and do a bit to resolve the traffic problem.
  5. Trouble is the mess is always left at night, I can remember up to the late sixties the area around Bridge Street Shalesmoor and the Wicker were always cleaned by a team of men and a wagon that washed the streets clean, now this happened at least four times a week perhaps it was every night but I cany
  6. You're right the multicultural areas seem to accept the filth as its still better than the one they've left. Who wants to see bins on footpaths overflowing with waste especially outside shops.
  7. Cavell's in the High St, their Sheffield breakfast is more than just a full breakfast.
  8. I totally agree about the Sub Editor Paul License, I got on with him very well though e-mails and such, but the big change with the star has been a edict from the owners, Jeremy Clifford who was at the helm as Editor after Paul was made redundant, has departed to another post in York, he always insisted that the majority of people were happy with the new Star but he was lying though his teeth, I've yet to speak to anyone who likes the new format.
  9. Its an absolute shame the way the Valley has gone from a once fantastic estate to a dumping ground for migrants and scroungers, you can see the decent people washing their windows, cleaning their fronts, while the others have filth outside their houses, smashed widows, litter just dropped anywhere. They cant afford to eat yet they buy £500 dogs, cannabis at around a £5 a shot, drive cars. Its very sad this estate has sunk to the depths.
  10. Rushby St is named after David Rushby who was a builder and joiner in the 1800s, he built houses on Baretta St and of course Rushby St. ---------- Post added 11-08-2013 at 12:56 ---------- Adsetts Street was built in the 1860 by the Sheffield & Grimesthorpe Freehold Land Society and named after the society's president George Adsetts, who at that time lived at Brightside he was a land agent with offices in Change Alley.
  11. I just wonder what the outcry would be if a Mosque was bought and turned into a pub?
  12. New Lotto will be launching on 5th October. What's changing? For draws from 5th October, new Lotto will cost £2 per line, creating bigger jackpots and a new raffle with at least 50 guaranteed winners of £20,000 in every draw. Matching 3 numbers will also now win you £25. Can I still play in advance? Yes, although there will be some temporary changes to the way you can play in advance leading up to the launch of new Lotto on 5th October. From 11th August, the number of weeks you can play the current Lotto game in advance will reduce each week until tickets for new Lotto go on sale on 3rd October. From 3rd October, you'll then be able to play Lotto up to eight weeks in advance as normal.
  13. I've had an e-mail from the National Lottery that as from the 5th of October, it will cost £2 a go instead of the present £1. That's me done.
  14. No you are wrong, but it seems the drivers on here have withdrawal symptoms without their car. So if you don't like paying for parking get back at the council and leave the car at home.
  15. Bumble Bees are more or less solitary Bees.
  16. I was amazed at the sign at the Peace Gardens, the entertainment there for kids is great but on the sign it states" NO PHOTOGRAPHS ONLY BY OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER" Id like to see that by law, I wouldn't have thought that was legal.
  17. Just speaking the truth, you cant gag the truth.
  18. Whats the point of these Proms? just another money burden on hard up parents, plus its another stupid import from the States.
  19. His job is just a waste of Money, its not needed.
