  1. Try getting friendly with the next door neighbours, and if they have wireless, tap into theirs.
  2. Without factoring in Woodseats (well documented elsewhere in SF) I will reserve judgement until the inner ring road is complete. That final Shalesmoor/Wicker section may well improve things greatly - but then again......
  3. My first PC was a 12MHz 286 running DOS 4, with a 40MB hard drive (Yes, MB - not GB) and 640k of RAM. It was from VTech, who now make childrens electronic toys. My very first computer, was the Dragon 32.
  4. Come on. This hoax must be at least three years old!
  5. You'd probably better off going for a Socket AM2 CPU. 939 is almost obselete.
  6. FFS - I can't believe someone can get so wound up over such a trivial matter. Next time the crossing lady stops the traffic for me to cross the road, after walking my daughter to school, I will make a point of stopping to have a chat with her half way over Now THAT should wind you up!
  7. At last, an article in The Sun I actually found entertaining AND informative.
  8. This is gated off now to stop the stupid Chav racers from killing themselves.
  9. Try the board out of the case. It may be shorting somewhere on the case. That said, Antec are pretty excellent cases - but you never know.
  10. Norton is the Anti-Christ and should be banished for all eternity - along with McAffee Big thumbs up for Bullguard I say
  11. ...on anyway. Crap music, but entertaining never the less. Anyone know who they are? Sorry if it has been posted before. I did do a search thingy.
  12. You can usually get clues to the make/model of a motherboard by examining the alphanumeric codes at the top and/or bottom of the initial screen when you turn the PC on. When it is doing a memory count, press the pause button on the keyboard, which should freeze the screen. If you want assistance, tell us what the codes are on here and I'll see if any of them make sense.
  13. Try putting your mouse pointer on the line just below the buttons and above the main content area so that it changes into a double headed arrow and drag down. Hope that helps.
  14. Does anyone know what he BBC Radio Sheffield Bus was doing in the Big Tree carpark, Woodseats, this morning? I don't listen to said radio station, and I haven't twitched my curtains for some time.
  15. I was at that one. Credit to them for having the 'balls' to play Reading. 50 Cent was funnier though, even if he did get payed 200k for the privalege. Another good one was Meat Loaf at Knebworth in 198? when Deep Purple headlined. It had rained all day, and he got absolutely pelted with sods of grass and mud. Even funier when one of his backing singers got one right in the mush. Then there was Jason & The Scorchers at the Status Quo End of the Road concert at Milton Keynes. That was in the days when you were allowed 2ltr bottles in.
  16. This link might help you out Pinklady
  17. The truly bone idle leave their trolly in the middle of the car parking space so you don't see it until you have crashed into it as you park.
  18. I would like to start a campaign for the return of Mrs Mangle
  19. Probably, but I'm just being bloody minded. It's sorted now
  20. I have just replaced a dead HD in a customers PC. The system restore CD wouldn't work, so did a clean XP installation (Tme PC - but that's another rant). It installed fine. I removed the modem, and fitted a NIC so I could hook it up to my broadband. It activated without any problems, so I proceeded to do all the updates. Once I was happy all the updates were in place, I put the modem back in and restarted the machine, at which point it demanded it had to be activated due to hardware change. So I put the NIC back in, went into activation, at which point I was informed this version of Windows had been activated on another PC - ARRRRGGHHHHHHHH! OK, no problem. I went through the labourious activation by phone process, eventually getting to speak to an operator, who got it activated. Now I've removed the NIC again, and it is demanding to be reactivated!!!!! This is not the first time the simple removal of a NIC has resulted in a reactivation being required. How the hell does Windows see the addition/removal of a simple NIC as being grounds for reactivation? I am not usually one to knock Microsoft, and I haven't got a problem with product activation in general, but this has really got me wanting to punch Bill Gates I'm off to get on the telephone again.
