  1. People are so gullable, this is just another illegal immigrant looking for refuge in this country.
  2. Seems to be a bit of the ALF coming out here, where do we call a halt to this question of cruelty to other things,do you object to slug pellets to kill slugs, fly killer to kill flys, mouse traps to kill mice etc, etc, being concerned about so called pain caused to fish you really ought to get out more or get a hobby to take your time up.
  3. I am with 02 on contract, have been for 13 years, since it was Cellnet and I get a free upgrade once a year, so its not only new customers, I can't understand why you can't get one!
  4. I think landlords should pay full council tax on all their properties, they own the house, so surely it is their responsiblilty, as their tenants are not required to pay it, and I agree with Strix, perhaps they (the landlords) would be discouraged by this, and not buy all the houses in certain areas and leave them looking like hovels.
  5. Peoples Cartridge Company, in the Wicker, down by the arches.
  6. We have been up Bradfield tonight, and we saw a Little Owl, it was sitting on a wall about 6ft. from us, then it flew on to a telegraph pole, and we watched it through the binoculars, its the first time I have seen a Little Owl.
  7. Good idea, I shall look forward to seeing it happen, will make good reading and may encourage people to grow their own.
  8. I love bananas on toast, with plenty of butter, have them for supper at least twice a week, yummy
  9. Don't think there is one on Crookes Road, only one on Crookes.
  10. My husband decided to go for a walk, before the rain started, I have just had to go and rescue him he was soaked to the skin, even his underpants were soaking wet. That'll teach him.
  11. Our Sky has gone off completely now, must be due to the adverse weather, ie. rain, thunder etc.
  12. I live at Crookes and we have just had massive claps of thunder. I love thunderstorms as well.
  13. Bare in mind the waste collection in Sheffield is now done by a private company i.e. ONYX, if you ever get out in the real world pop up to their recycling depot on Tinsley Park Road and see how much recycling they actually do, NONE.
  14. IloveFerrets, before posting a thresd of this nature you should know all the facts as there is no way the S.S. would take a baby from its mother just because she has been in care or her partner is older than her, some one is lying or you are winding us up to attract a response.
  15. Buisness has changed in the respect that it is disappearing fast, it is the attitude of people like youself that most of our buisnesses are now relocated overseas, buying more products from China than we produce in this Country. The time will come when we are held to ransom by these Countrys when we have no manufacturing base left at all in this Country,a reason why we must regenerate our industrial areas and subsidise our manufacturers and give them incentives. The run down and semi derelict zones you refer to ( presumeably Neepsend area) were all tennanted by small buisnesses before the old Dixons works was converted to flats, then they started complaining about the noise of Industry, fron then on it has just got out of hand. Try buying an industrial unit against someone who knows he is assured of it being turned into residential and getting planning permission for an eight storey block of flats, this is not a level playing field. Even our Council is obviously against Industry, they sold all of ours off and never build any new ones. We will rue the day when we turned our back on our industry.
  16. You mention in your list "Riverlin Valley", the only one I know for the period you mention was an open air one, it is still there but unfortunally very overgrown.
  17. Why not, because it is destroying the Industrial heartland of Sheffield and it is making the price of exsisting Industrial property to expensive, (MORE POWER TO CHINA eh) .
  18. Thanks everybody for that, it sounds just what he was talking about, he did give us an example of one word he remembered, but it didn't make sense to us or him how it was formed, but now thanks to the helpful replies, we can now start talking 'back slang' ankthay ouyay!!
  19. A friend of ours who is in his sixties remembers vaguely something called Sheffield Back Slang, but doesn't really know anything else, I just wondered if anyone on the forum knows what it is, and if it is still used. Apparently it was widely used at one time in various areas of Sheffield. It is something that I personally have never heard of. (could be this friend is winding me up!!!)
  20. To start with get rid of the House of Parliment and have self fianancing local Goverment as wherby all taxes are paid i.e. income tax, V.A.T. road tax etc, is paid locally and spent locally and not going to central goverment to be sent abroad and not used in this country as a lot of it is at present, by local goverment I mean South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire etc. Issuses like motorways that would run through these new Local Goerments could be privatised and be fiananced by car users paying a toll. The present system sees MPs in Parliment who seem to do nothing for the area they represent and in my opinion are just a waste of money, to see your taxes being spent locally and not going to fianance a new scheme in Outer Mongolia would be a lot more heartening. To think we are one of the richest countries in the world yet most people can only afford one weeks holiday a year, somethings wrong.
  21. I find this thread very offensive and cannot beleive it was even allowed, I dont usually respond to threads put on just to wind people up but think this one goes to far.
  22. Having had a reassuring reply from REDROBBO regarding this situation, it seems something is not quite right.
  23. Like most industrial property it has probably been pulled down and a block of flats built on it.
