  1. If its going up Spital Hill from the Wicker, then it is for the new ring road. I think, and I may be wrong, but where Vauxhall garage is and the BP petrol station, they have got planning applications in for retail park, etc. could include a supermarket I suppose.
  2. I am going to No 1 Oriental Buffet next week at lunch time, has anyone been, is it okay, is the food okay?
  3. WOW! Have you been on a bus lately, you call people who use them peasants, have you seen the price of bus fares, peasants couldn't afford them. Using a car is a lot cheaper. It cost me £3.00 to go to from Crookes to the Hallamshire Hospital and back!! Probably works about at about £1 a mile.
  4. Stanley Tools have been shut down in Sheffield for over three years.
  5. In my opinion, and it is only MY opinion, before anyone starts having a go, there should be no bus lanes and no tram gates. Firstly public transport is no longer run for the public, the buses and the trams are both privetely owned, and run for the profit of the shareholders of such companies, so surely any lorry driver, van driver, company car driver etc, are doing exactly the same, running their vehicles for the good of the company, so therefore the roads should be open to all.
  6. One thing that ought to be looked at are the amount of Pelican Crossings in Sheffield. Is it really necessary to have FOUR pelicans from the junction of Glossop Road to Brook Hill roundabout on the inner ring road, also going down from Crookes Valley Road to Broad Lane there are FIVE I really think this is excessive, people are quite capable of crossing roads on their own. Most people I see press the button then look up and see no cars, then cross the road, so when the cars do come along, the lights are on red and no one is on the crossing, sureley they should look first, and if they can cross, do so without pressing the button!!
  7. I have just sent a massive email, about traffic problems to the email address above, and it has been sent back undelivered, so that was some good.
  8. I was having trouble with my sewing maching, all the thread was bunching up underneath, tried taking it to bits, but that didn't work, so my husband sprayed all the moving parts with WD 40, and hey presto, it works perfect now. (Touch wood)
  9. I quite agree with Michael, I really do not like the term 'rat runner'. We pay road tax, insurance, have our cars MOT'd, so surely we are allowed to drive on what roads we like, and if we don't want to sit in traffic surely that is our choice, but as soon as the Council see where people are taking short cuts, they shut the road, "You will sit in the traffic"
  10. Thanks very much for that, things make a lot more sense now.
  11. I have just had a leaflet through the door, from the Crookes Forum, amongst other matters listed is one about information of proposed new development at the Bolehills. I am quite concerned about this, as it is my belief, and I am hundred percent certain, that the Bolehills were left in trust to the people of Sheffield, for recreational and leisure purposes, so therefor there can be NO development on the Bolehills. Surely someone on the Forum has the knowledge or the wherewithall to check this out, all my probing has come up against a brick wall. I would be most obliged if any one could let me know anything, or how to find anything out myself. I am going to go to this meeting, but would like some information to take with me. Thank you
  12. I am new to the forum and I too have problems with the abbreviations, I seem to have worked most of them out but what does LOL mean?
  13. I have just finished reading Ian Rankins new novel, Fleshmarket Close. Very good. I only discovered his books this summer, and have read quite a lot of them. I really like his books, as he writes about the area of Scotland that I come from.
  14. As soon as I hear anything by the Black Eyed Peas, I turn off, I really cannot stand them, and it seems everytime I turn Radio Hallam on they are playing one of their tunes.
  15. I have to wear glasses all the time, variofocals, and was wondering if you can wear contact lenses if you wear variofocals
  16. There's a new one opening soon on Commonside, where the flower shop used to be. Next to the barbers.
  17. Hi, I have it on expert authority (my son) he is a big fan of Wu Tang, The Wu Tang get their name from the Wu Tang Shaolin Monks which were in the film, "Enter the 36 Chambers" and that is what all the samples are from.
  18. I always use George at Neepsend Tyres, he is very good, he is on Neepsend Lane just opposite the chip shop, and sandwitch shop.
  19. The best place to buy a piano is Allan King Pianos on London Road, its on the bit that goes down towards Heely Bottom. Very helpful.
  20. The very very very best chippy in S10 is Broomheads, it beats the Admiral hands down.
  21. I have been reading the thread with interest, and totally agree that the RSPCA do not help the animals that really need help. They wont come out to injured or distressed animals, but that is RSPCA politics, not the fault of the voluntees who work for free.(who deserve more credit than they actually get) I notice they have a big fund raising campaign at the moment to help them move premises. Firstly, as it is a compulsory purchase, and correct me if I am wrong, but the Council, have to fund the move. Secondly, I read in the Star a few years ago, that they were left a multi million pound legacy from a German woman who lived on Whirlowdale Road, and I am sure it said, that they would use that money when they eventually had to move.:
  22. You don't see many parking attendents or the police on the Wicker, in the evenings. I counted 15 cars parked on the pavement the other evening, and cars parked on the double yellow lines including the zig zags on the crossing, and not a parking attendent in sight. They seem to go for easy targets, and I'm surprised they even went to Page Hall.!!!!
  23. Does anyone know when and why Poundland in Meadowhall closed. I went on Friday to stock up on the usual rubbish, and found it was closed.
  24. just watched last episode of Meerkat Manor, it has been absolutley great. Well worth watching. Better soap than corrie or enders.
