  1. Didn't know you could drive on a mobile phone. Do they have wheels or do they hover? Not much room for sitting. Difficulty in reporting the driver to the police unless you have a photo or video of him/her. I'm off to sunnier climes shortly and nearly everyone, including the police, use a handset whilst they are driving.
  2. That's one of the reasons why I use a bus. No problems with understanding or mis-understanding parking regulations. No fears of getting a parking ticket.
  3. I got my bill, not sure when, and I've gotta pay an extra £3 for the whole year! Not sure I can afford that. Registration online was a doddle. Tim, what code was it asking for? As long as you have your account number, on the top of the bill, then everything should be simple. You also need your bank account number, last payment, Surname and postcode.
  4. Not sure they were. If they were you could only get BBC and that was in black and white and had low resolution. No teletext. State of the art in those days.
  5. The drivers are too busy watching the road so they don't see the pedestrians. There's a spot in East Bank Road, near the Medical Centre, where the road is almost completely flooded when there's a long downpour. Extremely difficult for drivers to avoid this flooding even if they're driving sensibly.
  6. There is clearly a lot of speculation going on. Nobody at the moment is clear as to where the problem lies. Both Water Direct and the organisers are investigating so let's wait and see what conclusions they come to rather than continuing to blow a lot of hot air. If anyone is unhappy they're not getting a refund then contact one of these "no win - no fee" companies and see what they say. For £28 then I'd put it down to bad luck.
  7. Not much point in advertising Emergency Water if they don't operate 24/7 I initially thought of that but I'm not sure where they get their water from. Purely from an economic point of view I doubt if it's drinkable. The Fire Brigade have far better things to do than ensure their water tanks meet H&S requirements.
  8. An 89-year-old British woman has killed herself at the Dignitas assisted suicide clinic in Switzerland, in part because she had become fed up with the modern world of emails, TVs, computers and supermarket ready meals. More... Whilst I do feel sorry for her, and I sincerely hope others don't follow in her footsteps, however, I wonder how many other people think life is far too complicated nowadays? I have enough problems using a normal mobile phone let alone a smart phone. You get instructions written in gobbly-de-gook by someone who thinks they know what they are talking about but totally incomprehensible for normal human beings. The list is endless.
  9. This is one of the very few posts on this topic that seems to make any sense. We clearly know that the water was not delivered for some reason or another. What steps did the organisers took to check on the water delivery then we can only speculate. Does anyone know who supplied the water and why they failed to deliver? Anyway, let's ban SUFC as trafffic at Bramall Lane is far too dangerous. Let's ban fishing as walkers may trip over rods and drown. Let's ban market days as shoppers may get trampled on in the mad rush to get special offers. Let's ban anything which is in the least bit dangerous. Let's fire everyone at SCC if it rains today as they should have supplied us all with umbrellas (for H&S reasons).
  10. Until we hear anything from the organisers, we are clearly speculating as to what went wrong and who's to blame. That might be a bit too difficult for some members to comprehend. I don't for one second believe that SCC had anything to do with the lack of water.
  11. It is a real pity that some posters either do not read earlier posts or find them incomprehensible. SCC IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SHM!!! Not knowing what arrangements the organisers made to supply water then it's difficult to directly blame them for the fiasco. Let's hear what the organisers have to say about the ****-up. I'm surprised they did not name their supplier. Maybe they should have used Yorkshire Water.
  12. SCC was responsible the demolition of DVS. The organisers had to cancel the half marathon due to Health and Safety reasons (no water). NOT SCC!
  13. I see some job ads and the spelling is atrocious. Education does not necessary mean anything. Not knocking any tradesmen but their spelling would not concern me. However I would expect them to fully competent in what they do. They don't need a PHD to fit a wall plug.
  14. They installed the cycle lanes in London. Are they responsible for the cyclists killed? Were the SHM to be run professionally, who would pay all the costs?
  15. Or its with it's ? As long as the sentence is comprehensible then spelling is not a big deal. Sometimes, if a word is mis-spelt (or is it mis-spelled?) it can alter the whole context of the message. What I do find annoying is that when someone enters a very long message, omitting any form of punctuation, then it makes the message very difficult to read. I find typing messages quite challenging as although I think my spelling is very good, my typing is awful and have to preview my posts prior to posting. I am definitely a 2-finger typist, which in itself no big deal. Dread to think what it would be like if I used a smart phone. The fact that spelling mistakes are underlined in red, prior to posting, helps a lot, but that does not help if the wrong word is used (e.g. though instead of through).
  16. There is clearly a lot of speculation and wild guesses as to whom is responsible for this fiasco. Clearly the organisers should have supplied water however until we know why the water was not delivered then your guess is as good as mine. If the organisers made plans to have the water delivered and the suppliers failed to turn up then how can the organisers be held responsible? Does any one know why the water was not delivered? No guesses please!
  17. It's slightly easier with 8.1 Open Windows Explorer Select View then tick "Items Checked Boxes" The check box for each file will only show once you move the cursor over it, or you can click the "Name" box to select all files in that folder.
  18. i woz finkin abboute reeplieeng ttoo tis topik butt i cante fink off aneefinge intelgeeent too sai so i fink i shude belte upp i cant maik out wot all this red unerliing means...
  19. There has been a 2nd reported find from the Chinese ship and HMS Echo is now on its way to investigate findings. The Australian naval vessel Ocean Shield is currently investigating a 3rd finding elsewhere.
  20. If you're referring to the locator beacons then I doubt for one moment they'd be using the same frequency. Sounds a bit nonsensical to me. Guess these beacons would be transmitting their ID within their transmissions.
  21. A Chinese vessel has just picked up a pulse signal which is on the same frequency as that of the black box. No confirmation, as yet, that it's from the MH370.
  22. Thought he would have had a prompter however, no offence to dear old Bruce, he might have a problem reading it. Was there not some American guy who resigned recently as he could not remember his lines?
  23. I'd love to foster a dog but would be nonsensical for me for a number of reasons. A few years ago I had a couple of Chins. Really delightful. Had to depart with them as I was working abroad. Were I to get a dog again I think I'd get 2 as they could keep each other happy. Best of luck Peaches, and don't bark too much! Angel, why not get a big dog like a GSD or Rotty? Miind you, her ears might get bitten.
