  2. Hi Nick. There is no photograph yet...but I will keep looking. Those with a photograph were delared KIA about 6 month after the event, but I can't skip any in case it is earlier. Tuppie
  3. Hi. Have you tried posting on one of the family history sites. People on these have a number of transcriptions including baptisms, marriages and burials. If you have burials at Heeley Christ Church I have a list of the Monumental Inscriptions that I have produced for S&DFHS. http://www.sheffieldfhs.org.uk http://sheff-indexers.thewholeshebang.org/index.html Regards Tuppie
  4. Hi you two. Found this in the Sheffield Star. September 25th 1943 page 7 MISSING. Sgt Leonard Cotton, Navigator aged 22, dear son of Mr and Mrs Cotton, 63 Canada Street Sheffield, missing from air operations. Anxiously awaiting news. I'm not expecting to find any details of how and when he went missing due to the blackout on reporting during the war. Reports of aircrew seemed to be reported about 6 month after they disappeared, along with a photograph. Will keep looking. Tuppie
  5. Hello DUFFEM Do you already have this marriage from St Pauls Norton Lees. 25/12/1907 WILDGOOSE Walter 24 bachelor Father George GOODISON Ethel 23 sp Father. John dec. Tuppie
  6. Hi Nick. There is no response yet......lets hope it is delayed action. Tuppie
  7. As a family historian I have searched the burial registers for numerous records. If you know when he died then he will be entered in the burial register. This also gives the parents names, address and the section and grave number. Burngreave would be a starting point for the Northern General. It is just a case of ruling the cemeteries out one by one. The burial registers are available on film at Sheffield Archives. As for certificates they do not appear in the GRO indexes. "Due to the sensitive nature of stillbirth registrations, the procedure for ordering a certificate of the entry differs from other types of certificates. We will only send out the application form after we have been contacted by phone or in writing by the mother or father (if he is named on the certificate). In cases where the parents are deceased, a brother or sister can apply if they can provide their parents’ dates of death. The cost of the certificate is £7. " Tuppie
  8. The problem seems to be that there are still courts. On Danville St the first numbered property is 91 on the odd side and 72 on the even side.Occupiers of the courts are not listed, just the numbers of the courts. Tuppie
  9. geocol. I have checked all the streets you have listed but I can't find Harry listed. Tuppie
  10. Hi geocol. This looks promising 1901 census 79 Canada Street. Joseph M SANDERS aged 43 Mary (wife) aged 40 Willie (son) aged 15 Maurice (son) aged 13 Elsie (daughter) aged 10 Nellie (daughter) aged 8 Harry (son) aged 5 Arthur (son) aged 2 Joseph (son) aged 4m Given that Nellie SANDERS has 4 brothers there should be some of Leonards cousins still around. 1954 Kellys lists Morris M SANDERS at 61 Canada St, next door to Leonard and Nellie there is a strong possibility that this is the brother of Nellie listed in the 1901 census. Tuppie
  11. There is a death registration for Nellie COTTON in Sept 1971 ref Sheffield 2d 158. This gives her date of birth as 19th Nov 1892. Can't seem to find Leonard. I'll have another go tomorrow. Tuppie
  12. To avoid duplication of searches...this is the information already given to Nick. 17. Hi. The actual marriage registers are deposited at the archives. They are exactly the same as the marriage certificate the bride and groom are given, including the original signatures. This is how most family historians research their family history by viewing the original marriage records. You can also view the baptism registers, but the church was not licensed for burials so there are no burial registers. Tuppie

  20. As you have the date of birth from the Bole Hill school registers 27th June 1901, you could apply for the certificate. I see from the 1901 census that James B GOWER and Annie are living apart. Have you considered that Harry was illegitimate and took his fathers name after his parents married. It seems strange to me that James and Annie had no children in 15 years of marriage, then suddenly have two after 1901. Not impossible I know but still strange.Have you checked the birth certificate of James Leeson GOWER to see who the mother is, perhaps the answer lies there. Have you sent for the birth certificate of Harry "Ward" who was registered in the Sept Q of 1901 at EB, you really need this if only to rule him out. Tuppie
  21. Hi. His will was acquired by Sheffield archives last year. Tuppie
