  1. Oh dear that is so sad its awful to think that I may never find out where he went its so different these days thank goodness. Thanks for your time
  2. Does anyone know where stillborn or babies a day or so old were buried in the fifities? In those days the hospital took care of everything as it was not thought to be good for the mother to see the babies. I had a brother who was born at the city general (now the Northern) and I would like to know where he may be. I do know they probably had a mass grave for these poor souls but dont know where. Thanks for any info
  3. we went there when the new people moved in and there had been a review of the food in the star(or telegraph) and it was lovely. However we went fairly recently and the pub was not very busy but there were kids running around and being generally uruly and unsupervised which put us off, then the food was not half as nice as it was the first time. The landlady asked if everything was ok and we told her we were dissapointed (in a nice way) but she didnt seem bothered so its a case of we shant go there again. Also there was a whiffy smell about the place possibly the carpet, but this is a consequence of the smoke not masking smells anymore, but the place really could do with a proper overhaul and deep clean and then it could be a nice place.
  4. Try Metro sheds they used to be on shalesmoor but are now out at Barnsley but easy to find. They have a large range of summer houses and sheds on show or they do have a website. They were the cheapest I found and were very quick, it does depend though if you need a base or not and that adds to the cost. I wasnt in when they put my summer house up and they put it facing the wrong way!! They were round like a flash though when i phoned and it was put right. Good luck
  5. does anyone remember the one o,clock hummer from somewhere in Hillsborough if we heard it we knew we were late going back to school. A friend of mine says there is still one going in sheffield but she doesnt know where from, anyone know??
  6. just read jondixons message and am dissapointed I read in the telegraph that this was to be a bar for the middle aged clientel somewhere where we can hear ourselves talk and drink without having to go for a meal not a bar for dj music. oh well it will go down well with hooters when it comes and us fuddy duddys will abandon leopold square for something with a little more class.
  7. The Acorn at Burncross is adorned with the English flag and bunting are they planning a celebaration for st georges day??
  8. There is a place on Parkgate Road in Rotherham which sells architectural antiques some of them very odd!! I have seen church pews outside there before though. Go past parkgate retail park to the big roundabout, Look out for Netto, and go straight ahead towards Swinton it is on your left hand side good luck.
  9. hope there is new management too and they get rid of the clique. Went in before christmas the place was filthy and shabby and a motley crew stood around the bar and wouldnt let me get to it even though the rest of pub was empty and the barmaid just looked at us like muck. we did not stay so lets hope it gets decent welcoming staff and rid of the regulars.
  10. We went to The Old House on Division street for sunday lunch and it was absolutley delicious and the other customers food looked good too. The room to your left as you walk in is quite cosy and they may let you book the whole area or I think there is an upstairs room too. Their food is traditional english so may fit the bill, good luck and hope you have a lovely day.
  11. Thanks for the reply its great to know someone else remembers it being horrible!! I can remember mice running around the class room and we thought the old air raid shelters were haunted. I was in Miss Bexley, Miss Stills (I think) Miss Sutherland (she got married but I cant remember her name), Mrs White in the old school and then Miss Pashley, Mrs Parkin Mr Youle and the head teacher was Mr Parkin who had a bendy cane to smack the boys. There was a really scary Mr Reville who used to play the piano and scared the living daylights out of me and a scary old Miss who taught needlework . And do you remember Miss Bowie in the new school she was a bit strange!!! I lived on Foxhill Crescent and have seen some old school friends over the years I know it was old and horrible but I would love to find some photos of the old school I will let you know if I come across any Pam
