  1. For anyone with Sheffield ancestors all the available transcribed records will be searchable in the search room, including churchyard and cemetery burials, census indexes, baptisms, Bradfield poorlaw records (settlements, removals and bastardy bonds) Monumental Inscriptions for various churchyards. Tuppie
  2. The Fair at the Town Hall was funded by Sheffield Council through the City Libraries and they decided to spend the money on other things and that is when we stepped in and decided to run the fair. Also the room in the Town Hall was not big enough to accommodate the number of societies who wished to attend. Before this it was held at Hillsboro Leisure centre and Don Valley. The Council are talking about arranging another one in the Town Hall but this will only be for the smaller local societies to exhibit their displays. Tuppie

  5. Hi . You could start by searching the medal rolls at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/medals.asp#medalsindex If you know his regiment then the pension records are available online at http://www.ancestry.com. This is a pay to view site but I and others on this forum have a subscription and would search for you if you post his name, number and regiment. Not all soldiers were entitled to a pension, this applied to regular soldiers and not usually conscripts. Tuppie http://www.sheffieldfhs.org.uk
  6. The burial/cremation registers are also available on film at Sheffield archives...with an index Tuppie. http://www.sheffieldfhs.org.uk
  7. Hi Jessiet If you live in Sheffield you could check with Sheffield archives to see if the admission registers for the school are deposited with them. Admission registers give date of birth, parent/guardian and address. There is a 75 year closure on these but 1895 would be outside the closure period. There might also be a mention in the school log book of any presentations. The only problem I can see is if there is more than 1 William Marsden around this time at the school. Tuppie

  20. Hi Chyanteg, I often see David around the village, I'll ask him were Chiwalli came from. I know that the FOX family had Moor Hole Farm after my LEE family which was on Moor Hole Lane Mosbro Moor. I have an 1898 map and it is not showing on there, between The school houses and Drake House there is the Drakehouse brick works, just about where Chiwalli farm was on Beighton Road. Tuppie
  21. Hi Chyantag Carters Yard was off High Street. The layout now is The Long House(was Grange Farm) then the bungalow which is Bernie Nuttalls the dentist. Then there is a house which has just been painted green and the rear of this was Carters Yard. The sign has only been removed in the last couple of years it was on the side of the house. I do hope they will replace it. The house used to be Williams shop and before that it had been Saddler Banks shop. Tuppie
