  1. apologies for the delay, we have been very busy getting to know each other. Adelaide is an 18 month old chocolate labrador, absolutely gorgeous and amazingly well behaved. Loves long walks in town, round the parks and Peaks, not fussed by runners, cyclists, trams or any other form of cars. Loves meeting new people and animals, desperate to make friends with our cat George who is a little worried about the giant tonge bouncing around the place. But both are able to eat together in peace, so we're chuffed to bits. Only down side is that she hates being downstairs alone at night, we're going to try for another week then assess the no upstairs rule... but we count ourselves exceptionally luck to have found such a beautfully natured doggie. there are some piccies on my bebo site... http://tamarindl.bebo.com meet the family.
  2. got the call I was waiting for, we can collect her tomorrow!!!! Will do a proper introduction to the group later this weekend, myself restraint has kicked in as I was going to say tomorrow but i know me I'll be too busy making friends with our new Doggie.
  3. thank you Twirly, I've got to get through tomorrow... got everything crossed that the only call I get from the pound is to arrange a time for me to pick her up on Saturday. Will update this thread with how it goes.
  4. thanks for that, my thoughts about the paperwork are the same but it still lingers in the back (come to think of it, front) of my mind. I dislike waiting immensley, just want the time to be up... would love to take her home... although my cat has other ideas and has claimed the bed that's waiting for her. lol
  5. Hi there, I'm looking for some advice. I am hoping to adopt a dog from the council pound, currently in waiting period for the owner to come for her. I have a thought that won't leave my mind and thought you guys might be able to help. If her owner doesn't come for her and I can bring her home with me, what would happen if the owner recognises her at a later date, say I'm out walking her etc. Would they have any legal claim to her? She was found wandering free, no id tag or chip, if that helps. I would like to hope that there is someone looking for her, and against my own dreams, contacts the pound and collects her (as she is absolutley gorgeous) as she is worth looking for. But if this doesn't happen I think that we could offer her a loving life, I would hate to have to give her up in the future. Sorry for rambleing but I hope I've been able to explain my worries... the possibility is small, I realise, but Sheffield is a funny place, like that, and it wouldn't surprise me if it did happen. Thanks in advance. Tammii.
  6. Hi, was wondering if there were any Mini club in / around Sheffield. Getting an 1989 Rover Mini 1000 City E tomorrow. Just interested at the moment so any details would be gratefully received. Ie. Minimum age of car? Annual club membership? What do you get for this? What kind of outings / meetings, how many per month / year? etc... Basically never been a member of a car club before so complete newbie, this is going to be my first Mini, first love growing up was the old Bugs, hubby has always been bonkers for Minis (please don't flame me for this, everyone is different xxx) so any info really. Thanks in advance.
  7. did you manage to find anywhere? Would be really interested in going, as would a girly friend. There is a company called Polestars that looks like it's starting lessons in June but a bit pricey.
  8. there are some bike lockers at the lower entrance near Marks and Sparks, hope this helps.
  9. Hi Strix sorry for the appallingly long delay in repling to your hi. in answer to your question probably banned. was just doing a pootle through for any threads with my name and came across this one... though YEAHEEE someone would like to meet me... but alas no. lol! who needs you guys anyways... me obviously. suppose I'll just have to drag my saggy bum down to one of the meets soonish!
  10. to play devils advocate here.... after reading the link maybe that's why some owners leave their cats out and don't have an indoor little tray and don't have to touch the stuff. not saying it's right just this might not be the best link for your point, in some ways.
  11. supersoaker work wonders.... can hit our strays off the wall. not too big a drop on the other side but they have started bypassing our yard.
  12. think its about £25, a little more if you have a water supply. there's more info on http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/index.asp?pgid=19019 hth.
  13. "Sheffield wins European Gold Sheffield has beaten off tough competition from cities in Germany, France, the Netherlands and Slovenia to win Gold in the prestigious Entente Florale (Europe in Bloom) Competition. The results were announced at the Oscar style awards ceremony in Hungary on Friday 9th September. Sheffield was also awarded the Special Award for the most meaningful contribution to the quality of life for disabled people in the city. This was especially awarded for the work of the Green fingers group in Crown Hill." taken from http://www.sheffield.gov.uk
  14. have had a look around the jacobs website and can't find any sight of them.... try emailing them and ask where they've gone! http://www.jacobs.co.uk
  15. not sure what you'd call it but a room full of clothes driers (the electric ones) like a laundette but no washing machins. Lots of rented accomedation comes with washing machine but not a drier, and usually have limited drying opportunities. and the laudrettes near me won't let you use their driers if you haven't washed your clothes there. 24 hour toliets would be fantastic and if you could team it with showers, would be fantastic. like what they have in airports business suites. a lot of people would like to cycle / run to work but don't due to lack of showering facilities at their workplace so maybe a central area could be popular. I know a few people to take advanage of gyms to use their facilities so i think there is a market out there. Went to Alton Towers recently and after the river rapids and log flume there are drying booths. Like a phone booth but with a number of heated elements which you stand in and it dries your clothes off. Excellent for when you've been caught out without an umberlla in town. could lease them to large office building for their lobbys, similarily shopping centres or hotels. or have them as free standing cubicals in city centers or transport hubs on coin operation. I realise that these are all clothes and drying related but got onto a train of thought and went with it.... these are open for all to use. I don't have the capital to do them but would if I could.
  16. just wondering if there are any other RacingFrogz trainers in Sheffield? have just set up a racing team "Sheffield Hoppers" and wondered if anyone wants to combine "spring legged" forces. pm me if you want the password. http://www.racingfrogz.org if you're curious.

  20. have you used any of these mobile hairdressers or know someone who has? could you give me your thoughts. thanks in advance. Hairtek based in Dinnington Hair Extensions in High Green Gaynor's Mobile Hairdressing, High Green Hair Direct, Freelance Hairdresser based in Dinnington. starting to get a bit frantic, so any info or other suggestions would be gratefully received. Or Pepe's or Chio on Abbeydale Road?
  21. i'm with Endsleigh, they have a lot of requirements for locks etc, but offers good cover. A little pricey but hope that it will be a case of you get what you pay for if I ever need to. My bike falls in the lower value bracket and costs me £69 for the year. if anyone has a cheaper equal alternative I would also be keen to hear as mine is due to be renewed end of October. Hope this helps.
  22. haven't got one yet but am in the process at the moment. You do get a bit of choice. The Council are sending out a map with the availble plots marked on it, can take my pick of these. If I don't find one I fancy I can be added to the waiting list. Have been warned though that these can take an age to become available. Will be looking to see what the soil is like, how much work it's need doing to, light access etc. Hope this helps, best bet is probably get in touch with the council, see if anything grabs you and take it from there.
  23. like it, looked a bit cumbersome at first but I'm won over... just for novelty value if nothing else.
  24. do you mean the Buddist Center, they do run Yoga courses. Heard that they are very good but be warned they are popular and run in blocks, as far as i know you can't join half way through. Best bet is to contact them though as I could very well be mistaked. hope this helps.
  25. i feel that you should try to stand up for yourself, not just physically but mentally. I was lucky not to have experienced bullying until I moved to a small village high school where I didn't fit in from the start. My family travelled extensively while I was growing up so was used to making friends quickly in new places but with the advantage that we usually were in a high expatriate community so everyone was in the same position. However when I moved back to the U.K. the school was full of people that hadn't ever travelled, were in the same classes from start to end of education and couldn't relate to my experiences. The bullying came as snidey comments, that I was lying about what I had had the opportunity to do, basically my persective of life was a little broader than their's and it was difficult to understand how they could be so cruel. Where i had always been interested in others (including theirs) lives and experiences. I put up with it for a number of months, it gradually got worse as the ignoring them didn't seem to be working. I ended up writing a poem on night about how I was feeling and what I thought was causing it. How I wasn't going to give in and follow the crowd just because they wanted me to. My one and only friend at the time read it and suggested that I read it out in the weekly class meeting. This is a major deal for me as I had always hated public speaking, and the recent bullying had almost robbed my voice and confidence completely. However, after much soul searching, I decided that the chances of them actually listening was slim so I had nothing to loose. It was great watching them skirm as they realised that although there was 15 of them reguarlly making my life hell that I was taking them all on but not sinking to their level. This didn't make them all whoop with cheers or anything Hollywood film ending like but realised that I wasn't afraid and wasn't going to hide away from them or my life any more. Things got a little better and some of the ones that had been hanging on this group because they thought there was saftey in numbers, drifted away. The next year the school set up a Bully Council where the students acted as an advice centre and ear for other students that were experiencing bullying. Each side was given a chance to speak and explain what was going on, the consquences of actions. Teachers were involved but mostly run by the students. What was interesting is that a couple of the kids who had bullied me became councilors and after the first session came to me and apologised for their past actions. Sorry this has turned in to a bit of an epic but this is the first time I have written it (almost) down. I know this approach won't work but I hope it can help someone out there. Don't be afraid of who you are, it's more than likely that they are scare of you for one reason or another. Additionally please don't think that you have to say things to people to fit in with a group, always imagine what it would feel like to have it done to yourself. Thanks for reading, if you got this far.
