Dan_Ashcroft
What the remaining 15 or so wards? The question was about the tree hugging/middle class wards of West Sheffield. Working class East Sheffield is as safe Labour as you can get pretty much anywhere in the country.
Narden Dee
we have the lib dems in greenhill/beuchief ward and they in my opinion do a top job ,tried labour ,but they got outed within a year, awfull, giving big cash to 2 groups and nowt to the rest, promises never kept ,long noses come to mind, the labour council need a strong opposition otherwise we all get nowt decent. which rest ? do you mean the TARA you run for which you receive a substantial amount of money from tenants and residents . come on bassett name names or carry on bleating like a spoiled child maybe their ideas where a lot better than having some pub ska band play and having a bouncy castle and actually did something for the area and its residents. whiteowl
Glad Steve Ayris held Graves Park Ward for the Lib Dems. Whilst Labour seem hell bent on selling off parts of the park, he's been pretty good at defending it.

Working class East Sheffield is as safe Labour as you can get pretty much anywhere in the country. Are there only 6 western wards then? And all of the eastern wards are 'working class'? ---------- Post added 04-05-2018 at 11:15 ---------- Hillsborough ward for example, looks fairly to the west to me, unfortunately a strong labour hold. Even an alliance between the lib dems and greens wouldn't have been enough to unseat them.

All 3 lib dem councillors for Graves Park are consistently proactive, and they do reply to emails etc..
leftylou
The "Echo Chamber" is in full swing over on the STAG Facebook page. They seem convinced that last night's results somehow validate their approach. They are blind to the fact that Labour took 40 % of the vote yesterday (it was 35% in 2014), and think that a few seats to the Lib Dems and The Greens are indicative of a trend. They're not. Alison Teal's magnificent performance aside, it's just business as usual. In fact, nationally Labour did so badly that last night can be seen as a triumph in Sheffield. In terms of East-West Sheffield council stretches out to Stannington and Stocksbridge but if there a divide it is based on economic deprivation not actual Geography. paula4sheff
Only 1/3 of seats were contested. So Labour actually lost a quarter of theirs that they were contesting. In local elections that's a big swing. The Greens took City and Broomhill, while the Lib Dems took a few seats too. Interestingly Labour lost every seat in Jared O'Mara's constituency. Absolutely - it's a terrible night for Labour. Sure, they still hold control (and always were going to) but to lose a quarter of the seats that were contested in a local election is actually quite major. And can we PLEASE stop with the class comments regarding trees. It's actually pretty offensive. I'm also not sure why some people seem to revel in the idea that trees are bad things, and people that don't want them destroyed are in some way stupid.
