tinfoilhat   11 #74 Posted April 27, 2017 When you have worked for it, then you can talk.  Pensions are linked to the investment ""spivs" but you knew that right?
 Share this content via...

Ms Macbeth   76 #76 Posted April 27, 2017 No it wasn't, the state pension was to be paid till you died otherwise it would then have to be replaced with other forms of benefits.  As a few years after retirement was most people's life expectancy (if they were lucky), El Cid's right. El Cid   221 #77 Posted April 27, 2017 Around 50% of pensioners today only get just the one state pension and some not even at the higher rate.  When people can easily live past 90, they must be ill-advised not to save for their later life. At the very least buy your own property. With the death of the Labour party looming, would you trust the Tories with your only pension? Obelix   11 #78 Posted April 27, 2017 Your and my ideas of manufacturing are totally different. By manufacturing I mean a product. Doctors, in the main, produce well and healthy people, when given an ill person. An Engineer creates a product to the requirements of whoever requests his services. Whether he or she builds it themselves, or employs others to do it, is bye the bye. Both are wealth creators, as are the people supporting them.  Capitalists are just casino men, whose like can be found in any betting shop throughout the world. Spivs. They are drones on wealth creators, the world could continue quite well, and better, come to that, without them.  You have no idea what a capitalist actually is, and you use it as a go to handle to beat things you dont like because you know it gets the usualy chorus to sit up and agree like a load of Pavlovian dogs.  You are an engineer? I would have thought you would understand at least the concept between selling disinterested counsel as an engineering service and the actual act of making and building something. What engineering discipline did you do?
 Share this content via...

Anna B Â Â 1,417 #80 Posted April 28, 2017 Like pensioners.......... Â Well I walked into that one.. Â But seriously most pensioners have worked hard and paid taxes for 40 or 50 years, as well as bringing up the next generation. And now a lot of them are helping out with the Grandkids, their own aged parents, voluntary work etc, so they're not exactly idle. Â I also know quite a few who are still working because they say they can't afford to retire. I don't know how they do it, I'm exhausted at this age and simply couldn't work any longer. Â I hate to use the old cliche, but you too will be old one day. Â What's your solution for dealing with OAPs?
 Share this content via...
Itrytoplease   10 #81 Posted April 28, 2017 You were paid for your work.... which generation decided on the education system?  And we paid our national insurance, about £1.10s in the mid sixty's, equivalent to about 7 gallons of petrol in todays money. Cyclone   10 #82 Posted April 28, 2017 Retirement and state pensions as they stand will simply become unaffordable as the population pyramid becomes top heavy. There are simply more older people and they are living longer. Arguments about how hard they worked don't alter the cost of having more retired people drawing pensions than working adults paying into the system. Jacktari   10 #83 Posted April 28, 2017 Certain posters are falling over themselves in the rush to defend the capitalist work masters. It is a sad reflection of how low these peoples self esteem has become that they feel they have to debase themselves before their paymasters.
