Crosspool Police Station

Thanks. Will there still be a petrol station, or will it just be a shop?

The petrol station closed some time ago. I believe that its closure had a dramatic downward effect upon the UK inflation figure

The bulldozers are on the site at the moment. Let's all hope that Tesco is more reasonably priced than the petrol station.

I can believe that about the inflation figures. I often passed that way but never bought fuel there. Did they ever have a "last petrol for XX miles" type of sign to try to justify the price?

Unless my memory is playing tricks and I'm getting confused with somewhere else, I think that there used to be petrol pumps at the garage just beyond the junction with Sandygate Rd, and that that did have a "last petrol..." sign.

I also remember that sign.

These days, most cars have an audible beep/digital read-outs, or at the very least far more accurate fuel meters. If you remember the sign, you also probably remember how little you could take chances with fuel guages! My Mini and mk3 Escort had fuel gauges (I remember quite clearly) that were so crap that I tended to keep them full up/topped up! :hihi:

I think by today's standards, a sign saying 'last fuel for 100 miles' would be just about far enough to likely entice me into paying a higher cost (as Eater said), and the justification is if the nearest other station was a pain in the arse to get to, which today is quite true.

Oh Ash, you have made my day. Many thanks.

Perhaps we should make a forum improvement suggestion to have this music accompany any thread started by JBFox or OhMyWord? Others can be nominated as deemed fit.
