Ontarian1981 Â Â 10 #901 Posted February 25, 2018 Neither Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton took on the gun lobby, so not a scooby with a far right Republican. Slightly off topic, but a senior South Yorkshire police officer recently told me that certain class A drugs were harder and more expensive to obtain than hand guns and ammunition. Â You are dead wrong on Clinton, he put through more gun controls than any president in US history. Check out the Brady Bill of 1993, still in effect. and the Crime Bill and the Federal Assault Weapons Bills of 1994, torn down in 1996. All those bills got through Congress, so it is not totally impossible to clamp on the NRA, if the resolve is there, that being the key word "resolve". There seems to be a real fear gripping many Americans that the government are out to take all their guns. Thats like taking a kids favorite toy and telling it you are doing it for its own good. Â You are right about a "real fear" of losing their guns , this was why Timothy McVeigh blew up the Federal building in Oklahoma City, that and he was apparently upset about the Waco fiasco. A real sick puppy, who was born with a gun in hand, figuratively speaking. But he used a massive bomb to make his point, not a gun. Â This is very true, his point was that he believed the people should be able to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. McVeigh wasn't sick, the 2nd amendment was both the cause and the symptom of his crime and he was following it as interpreted by the NRA. Â What a messed up nation the USA is with weapons. After all we, and all other gun lovers, are a bunch of knuckle dragging, brain dead morons.  Sorry to denigrate any morons out there by comparing them to this miserable excuse for lifeforms
 Share this content via...
Ontarian1981   10 #910 Posted February 26, 2018 So why didn’t it work?  Mainly because the Republicans who voted with him were ousted and replaced by more right-wingers. Can't blame Clinton for that.
 Share this content via...
Dimple   10 #911 Posted February 26, 2018 Yes, not old enough to buy a drink but old enough to buy a gun, stupid isn’t it?  Stupid to us maybe. To lots of Americans its perfectly normal. Culture is a strange thing it has to be said. To some of us giving a small child their first gun that actually fires real bullets could seem crazy in the extreme. To people from that culture its as normal as normal can be.
 Share this content via...
Harrystottle   10 #912 Posted February 26, 2018 Yes. It's worth remembering that America only came into existence as a state because their citizens owned guns. It is ingrained.
 Share this content via...
