The Descent   8/10

Id forgotten what a good film this is.

A group of women going spelunking in the Appalachian Mountains, it doesn’t go too well.

Theres not many good British horror films but this was Neil Marshall’s 2nd (after Dog Soldiers).

Edge of your seat stuff from start to finish (the Uk ending is different to the US one)

We loved Dog Soldiers

Throw back creatures in a cave!

Mutant Dog soldiers!

Not my thing at all,  but

Each to his own (& why not)

(I'd have you all watching films with big Yankee cars or set in't 50's  )

HTSBO loves all that 'Lets go to a Cabin in the Woods'

Abandoned Mental Asylum.

'We're lost ' 'Lets split up' rubbish.

So   'Now for Something Completely Different'

Watched Monty Python Holy Flying Circus (Amazon Prime)

90 mins light heart'd back stage look at

the controversy their film 'Life of Brian' had, even before it was shown.

Expertly cast and food for thought.

The Humour throughout is all Python and succeeds in turning it away from being an actual documentary.

I'm giving it a high 8/10

Gardens of the Night.   9/10

Really well made film about a terrible, still all too relevant subject.
2 children are abducted and sold out to people, suffering years of abuse. They then end up living on the streets.

The writer/director, Damian Harris based his story on the kids, counsellors, police and pimps he met during two years of research.

Its fantastically written and the acting is great, even by the young children.

Beckett - 6.5/10

Following a car accident in rural Greece, a man suddenly finds himself being shot at and hunted by complete strangers and desperately tries to make it to the US embassy in Athens.

This very much had the feel of something like The 39 Steps or some 70s conspiracy movie to me, where a random person suddenly finds themselves in the middle of something they don't understand and unable to trust anyone. I'm still not entirely convinced that John David Washington has the acting skill/charisma to carry a film but other than that it was interesting.

Today at Cineworld. Loved it. An absolute splatter-fest.

All the gore and claret you'd ever want. Think Kill Bill, Deadpool, Reservoir Dogs etc.

However, the absolute star is Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. The sexiest character on the planet. Margot wet. Margot chained up. Margot ripping her dress... For many of her scenes it's almost like acceptable soft porn. The camera loves her. Clearly, so does the director who knows a good selling point when he sees it.

But more important than Margot... ("How is that possible?" you say..).... is the fact that it's a very funny film. Some marvellous throwaway lines and scene set ups that are reminiscent of silent-movie comedy.  For me, an easy 9/10. Loses a mark for some rubbish music (that da kidz probably love).

I will be going to see it again.

Watched it last night and my exact thoughts were the plot was very similar to the 39 steps,  I agree with your rating too.

 Shadow in the Cloud.

DON'T    DO    IT  :nono:

For your own Sanity - DON'T DO IT. :nono:

Absolute Tripe from beginning to end.     -- 0/10

WW2 Woman pilot's *  secret mission descend's into (almost) laughable totally unbelievable catastrophe.

The ending is the best part, not for any twist to the pathetic story line but just because you don't have to watch anymore.

I've no idea what the budget was for this film was but it was money wasted as was the 2 hours me and HTSBO shall never recover.

*(Nothing wrong with that - read 'the Female few' by Jacky Hyams or read about Lettice Curtis the first woman to fly 4 engine'd planes for the RAF (Auxiliary)

Keep safe

The Courier   - Benedict  Cumberbatch - Rachel Brosahan (the Amazing Mrs Maisel)

Billed as 'A True Life Spy Thriller'

Yep, the Story is true, but the Thriller bit is missing.

Couldn't fault the Acting as such but the jail scenes lack any real horror.

Worth watching if you want to catch up on a well known story from the 1960's,

but don't expect too much.   5/10

I could be tempted to give it a 6/10 just for the Russian cars

(& the British ones of course) used throughout the film.

Keep safe enjoy

M'buddy & I have just come out of a double bill of 'Suicide Squad' (again) and the latest Ryan Reynolds offering 'Free Guy'.

Lots to love about 'Free Guy'. Many cultural comic nods. A couple of classic Deadpool ones and other major Marvel characters have their milliseconds too. Best laughs in the film.

In many ways there's an underlying poignant sadness around the plot which kind of dampens it though. You don't need a crystal ball to figure out our Ryan doesn't get the girl in the end. How could he? She's real and he's a computer game character. It also shows what a shallow world the folks who immerse themselves in video games live in. Laughable pathetic figures. The movie doesn't beat you to death with The Message, but it's fairly obvious what the writers intended. Also, a lot of the gaming references went straight over my head. I'm the wrong generation for all that rubbish.

That said, it's still a blast. The CGI's awesome and the soundtrack is uplifting. Standouts from Mama Cass, Joey Scarbury, McFadden & Whitehead, Fred Astaire (and Mariah Carey's in there too).

Wish there'd been a Wrexham gag though....

Another one I'll see again.

7/10. The inclusion of Mariah Carey loses it serious point.

Written and music by Sparks.

Reviews say 'art house'

'the Future in cinema'

& other such Dribble.

THE THING IS DIRE NO MATTER HOW YOU DRESS IT.

WORSE FILM EVER ?  - ITS A CONTENDER.

The best me and HTSBO could do was to skip through, happy in the knowledge

we weren't going to miss anything.

Hmmm. I want to see it as it is Sparks, but the clips I've seen and the blurb I've read make it sound waaayyyy too arty for me. You've just made my mind up 😀
