I enjoyed 'Shang-Chi' more than I thought.

 

I was initially disappointed when I learned it wasn't going to be the  award-winning Doug Moench and Paul Gulacy Fu-Manchu version adapted for the cinema. They've REALLY missed a trick there.

 

Will give it a 7/10.

 

Starts as a bog-standard kung-fu 'quest' film, but picks up when Ben Kingsley's Mandarin/Ringo Starr character appears and it all turns a bit trippy. Then we go all 'Crouching Tiger' followed by nods to 'Spirited Away' and 'Godzilla', then The Big Fight scene. Very uneven flick. Some nice CGI and, like all Marvel movies, its saving grace is the correct amount of humour.

 

Hated the soundtrack. Good cast. Great cameos.

The Last Bus (Timothy Spall).  An excellent film!  A very skilled and heart-warming performance from Mr Spall.  An ending,  which very surprisingly,  made me cry. 9/10.

'The Show' (2020)

Tom Burke, Ellie Bamber and others.

We like the 'Strange' & this is sure that.

Surreal-Macabre-Fantasy are all the words that should be applicable to this film,

but for us there is something that didn't quite Gel.

The Excellent Cast & Story line are there, but the middle bits fail some how. 

For 'Curiosity' value and some of the 'comedy', the film is worth watching. 

But don't expect too much.

Everybody's talking about Jamie.

 

Come on its set in Sheffield and based on a real story.

Apart from Abbeydale picture house and the mention of 'Parson's Cross' there wasn't that much we recognised of Sheff.

Ok we did notice Kyle Cres on the house Jamie's delivering the newspaper to at the beginning of the film & thanks to Google maps have worked out the path Jamie rides down is off Dryden Rd.

Right,  that's the reminiscing of Sheffield over, what's the film itself  like?

 

Surprisingly its good enough to be watchable, well we thought so.

It would have been nice to see a little more recognisable Sheffield but the story based on the real Jamie Campbell (Bishop Auckland  works.

Where lots of films fall flat or become staid in-between the good bits this didn't.

I'm not saying it was the most  gripping of films but somehow it kept us entertained throughout.

I'm waffling on and not mentioned the music 

The music's good, in fact there are a couple of very good songs in there.

The Comedy and feel good factor make the film.

Is it worth watching ?

Our answer is Yes.

 

I'm giving it a big 8/10 

 

It's not as good as 'Kinky boots' but it's still worth the 8.

Best movie of the year by far 10/10 +10/10

 

Based on the novel 'Sandcastle' by Pierre Oscar Levy & Frederik Peeters.

 

Being on a secluded beach with just a few other couples you get along with sound good?

It is until strange things start to happen.

HTSBO choose this one.

I'm expecting the usual - "lets split up" - get killed one at a time rubbish.

Starts off a little like 'Fantasy Island' (ish) but sure don't end like it.

This has to be one of the most original things i have seen since? I give up!

As intriguing as to what's going on on't beach is, the final 'twist' is ?

I'm not going to tell you  you'll have to watch it yourselves 

 

You won't be disappointed.

 

Fully Recommended.

The Green Knight - 7/10

 

This is what you might call a Marmite movie. It will be absolutely hated by some and praised to the heavens by others. I lean towards praise but recognise the flaws.

 

Achingly beautiful but glacially slow and somewhat disjointed telling of the old story of Gawain and the Green Knight. Some nice tinges of folk horror.
