Further 10% cut to local authorities

Recommended Posts

Will be care, roads and schools again!

Care - Will be massively affected I wouldn't wish to be an older person who relies on care services moving forwards. People have to remember the conservatives paint public sector services to be draining and the news today is there stopping increments. This is old news and just confirms the inevitable as Sheffield city council workers haven't had increments for the last 3 years. This us relatively small fry as although people in an ideal works would like increments people can manage without but the cuts in place and now proposed will begin seriously affect people's well being.

The real impact will be having to make save further millions of cuts to social care on top of the cuts already taking place this will be damaging for many in this city.

But also Gideon fails to see the impact this will have on the NHS for many older people and people with physical disabilities if they get a good service from social care it prevents their health deteriorating. With little social care services available people will instead turn to their GP whose budget although apparently protected will not get increased to cope with the inevitable increase in demand.

Roads- the council got the funding to sort out the cities roads and us presume Amey have been paid for that contract as there now in the process of fixing potholes etc. so I would have thought road condition should improve rather than get worse

Schools - Gideon says that the education budget will be protected ;)

Of course it will be care, roads, schools etc. Our Labour council will make sure of that so they can blame the nasty Tories.

well hopefully the cuts will make the councils think more carefully about spending their budget on non essentials, minority interests and white elephants:roll: then maybe the books will balance

I think one thing that hasn't been mentioned is the new role that has been devolved to local goverment from PCTs and that is public health.

If councils are to carry out the function that PCTs did will they get the same amount of money - given that the NHS budget is ringfenced?

Nice thought but it will never happen. They will still waste money on pointless pet projects.

I bet you were wearing a ra ra skirt and waving your pom poms when this next line of cuts were announced today?
