If a UFO came over Sheffield & landed and an alien got out, people would still say it was not real. Plenty of people will believe in aliens when there's some decent evidence- it's not that bizarre a thought that there could be life from somewhere other than Earth, after all. Either that or they will only ever believe when someone lands an alien nuke on their house or an alien device up their ass. Or maybe most people will continue to be sensible.
