The reduction in housing benefit applies to people living in council houses or having rent paid through housing benefit (which means they can't make modifications like this without permission).  ---------- Post added 16-03-2013 at 08:38 ----------  A deduction from your income at source is direct taxation. This is just the kind of policy ive always associated the tories with, just when a persons at thier lowest point, lets give em a good kicking and nick thier dosh.  Taxation would be taking a % money that you have earned.  Reducing benefits is more analogous to being give a cut in what you earn, except that people on benefits don't earn it... Seems totally bizarre to me.
 Share this content via...
dhs1   10 #197 Posted March 16, 2013 First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.  Then they came for the socialists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.  Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.  Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.  Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Catholic.  Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me  This is an abuse of Niemoller's words. El Cid   222 #199 Posted March 16, 2013  at last someones seen sense  It should always be the case that people are allowed housing allowance for their needs. If their needs are for a three bedroomed house then that is what the housing allowance should be paid for. Those needs should be signed off by someone who is keeping an eye on how much we give away in taxes. We should not have been paying housing benefit all these years for unused bedrooms. We should not have been paying housing benefit all these years for unused bedrooms.  There is a huge amount of people that are claming benefits that are working but not earning enough to live on. These people are not skivers they have been forced into claiming benefit because due to Cameron and the Tory policies people are having to work part time because there are not enough full time jobs available. Could you please explain where one person living in a 2bedroomed house is going to move to because there are not enough one bedroom properties for them to move into even if they want to. These people are going to be penalised through no fault of their own due to lack of accommodation.
 Share this content via...

El Cid   222 #204 Posted March 16, 2013 so its out of jealousy you dont agree would you be saying the same thing if you got a council house then came out of work and had to live on benefits and were penalised by this ?  If I was in your position I might well want to keep those benefits, but its fairness not jealousy. What about people living in over-crowded conditions?  We should all pay lower taxes, then we might not need so many freebies.
