Ms Macbeth   76 #183 Posted March 15, 2013 its a way of fleecing money from people that find themselves in a no win situation because of circumstances out of their control  A story here that highlights just how difficult it is for a person under 25 who hasn't been able to find work: http://www.insidehousing.co.uk/tenancies/below-the-breadline/6526164.article  He's already living on next to nothing - as is anyone under 25 who is dependent on benefits unless they can live in the family home and share expenses. Squiggs   11 #186 Posted March 15, 2013 Please read some of the thread, and you will realise that the government are imposing a reduction in housing benefits that won't affect you, or anyone else who pays their rent themselves.  There is no 'bedroom tax' as such. However lots of people who've also worked hard, but who may have fallen into ill health, become disabled, or otherwise unable to earn a living, and who have to claim benefits to pay for their housing will be penalised.  This is the thing  "Doesn't affect me" can soon become "why is nobody standing up for me?" mikem8634   10 #187 Posted March 15, 2013 This is the thing "Doesn't affect me" can soon become "why is nobody standing up for me?"  First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.  Then they came for the socialists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.  Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.  Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.  Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Catholic.  Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me
 Share this content via...
cgksheff   44 #188 Posted March 16, 2013 This is the thing "Doesn't affect me" can soon become "why is nobody standing up for me?"  It affects all of us.  We live in a society that needs a massive overhaul that is probably impossible.  Councils and our government have become self-serving machines that cannot be changed for the betterment of us all by those that we think represent us.  Individuals are getting what they can out of it all at both ends of the spectrum, be it bankers or scroungers. Why? Because they no longer have faith that if they look after their fellow man, the same 'looking-after' will be afforded themselves should they ever need it.  I feel so sorry for the good, hard-working, people that get squeezed in the middle of this, but I have watched the "March of The Bean Counters" take all the good, worthy professionals out of positions where they can do the good that their experience warranted. Idiots in charge, throughout Private and Public Sectors.  A broken education system that presents reduced opportunity for the new generations to get the relevant experience.  If you hold out your hands, don't expect them to be filled for ever.  If you are capable, go and work wherever you can. Help those that you can afford to as you go along and be satisfied that you did good before you go.
 Share this content via...

El Cid   221 #190 Posted March 16, 2013  It affects all of us.   It only affects those that are getting housing benefit.  Its an empty bedroom, one that is not being used; even the Government are allowing for 'special needs'.
