rubydazzler   11 #97 Posted February 25, 2012 (edited) ... And why on Earth would there be so many copies of an appendix (the bible) knocking about, but only one copy of the main thing? You are aware of the epoch that Balpin is referring to? Until the invention of the printing press, there were very few copies of any book 'knocking about'. And at the time of the burning of the Great Library at Alexandria they all had to be written out and the medium on which they were written made, by hand. Apparently there are books and papers in the Vatican of which there is only one copy in existence. LeMaquis   10 #98 Posted February 25, 2012 Ahhh, so its more about racist attitudes towards the Amercians? But if that wasthe case, why arent the Amrecian soldiers getting killed, Why is it innocent civilians?  Two US soldiers were killed on Thursday, something you should have known. And another 2 high-ranking US officers were killed today. The Nazis burned books and now the US military is burning books. The Taleban are just taking the view that US soldiers, like the Nazis, have to be killed.  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/afghanistan/9105802/Two-senior-American-soldiers-shot-dead-in-Kabul.html
 Share this content via...
ferno   10 #99 Posted February 25, 2012 Would you sacrifice your life so that this book may survive?  Of course. The book could contain knowledge that could save millions. The Alexandria fire may have been the erasing of humans' net knowledge thus far, it may have set us back centuries.
 Share this content via...

Are you equating US soldiers to the Nazis?  In that case the US soldiers and the taleban should be allies. As the arabs were Nazis and still are. They were the greatesat friends Hitler had, as they both had the same ideal.
 Share this content via...

Is there nothing that ‘we’ as ‘other’ are doing wrong to make this situation worse?
 Share this content via...

So I say, get all of them in Afghanistan and dont read them. Because it is tripe. Anyone who believes that is sorely lacking.  It must be in the translation somehow. Tyranna   10 #105 Posted February 25, 2012 The Bible too once upon a time raised hackles like the Koran still can; indeed in a few parts of the world, the Bible still indeed DOES... What I find really hard to believe is that it is claimed that the text of the Koran is still absolutely the same, word-perfect, as the original which was written by Mohammed in the 520s AD. Regardless of one's own religious convictions, ultimately, any religious tract such as the Koran or the Bible should be first and foremost regarded as an HISTORICAL DOCUMENT that reflects a religious perspective and historical events and NOT the actual words of God/Prophets/Saints, etc. It would be folly to think otherwise, due to over 1500 years of copying, editing and translation many times over! That is the word of God, laid down, never to be changed until the end of time. After that it may change, but dont hold your breath.  Jesus and the rest are a load of old nobodies you now?  Get cool with with latest hip guy. RootsBooster   24 #108 Posted February 26, 2012 Just think, if it were not for people like RootsBooster we could be living on the Stars by now. God help us. That's right, my ignorance of your lost holy book is why we don't "live on the stars". Nothing to do with the great distance and intense heat involved then.  Apparantly the bible is only an appendix, you know brief notes, to the whole thing, that was in there. You would not say that was woth one persons life?  Just think, if it were not for people like Balpin, we wouldn't have people killing over books now.  Dog help us.
