They are drowning out the noise of the crowd! I like to hear the singing and bands playing. It sounds like a swarm of bees are in the stadium! The commentators on the Spanish Channel (Unnivision) have no trouble being heard over them. 11th match in, it would be strangely silent without them. You only ever get that in English games. Most matches in Europe you hear loads of horns being sounded throughout the game - usually air horns.
