Berberis
It looks as though Yorkshire forward have been overruled and common sense has prevailed with regards to the proposed Leeds Arena. The government has refused to approve the Leeds scheme meaning no public money will be used to fund a rival to Sheffield. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/south_yorkshire/8300517.stm

alchresearch
Great news. Like the article says, there's no need for a second arena when there's one just 30 odd miles down the road.

Annoni_mouse
why i think leeds should have one sheffield got money to it Nope. Sorry. I've read it three times and I still don't understand? Anywho, I'm pretty pleased YF have been forced to back down. I don't actually care if L**ds get's an arena or not, but I'll be damned if a group which is supposed to promotes the WHOLE of Yorkshire pumps money into a project which they know will have a negative effect on important part of another Yorkshire cities economy. In short, if L**ds want, L**ds can pay for it - just like we had to.

Greybeard
Don't count your chickens.... Leeds City Council said the decision would not halt plans for the arena And I'm sure I heard Hilary Benn saying the loss of the govt' funding wasn't such a big deal - the £18million could be found elsewhere.
