  1. At the left end of Buttermere Rd there's a tree up on the bank. The apples are quite sweet.
  2. My guess is they've run out of money with the work half done. Shame the pub had to go for this.
  3. I need to find a home for a sapling Salix caprea pendula Kilmarnock, a weeping pussy willow tree. It's around 5' tall. This is what it should look like in springhttps://www.dobbies.com/products/plants/ornamental-trees/salix-caprea-kilmarnock/ . It's free to pick up from S7.
  4. I haven't seen my cat since last night. He's gone walkabout before but I can't help worrying. He's a large handsome black cat with faint stripes. He's actually a black smoke with a white undercoat. We live on Buttermere Road, by the junction of Abbeydale Road and Woodseats road. Any information appreciated. Thanks. ---------- Post added 11-11-2015 at 16:03 ---------- Little sod just turned up
  5. I was blown off my feet earlier today. No damage thankfully. I was going down a steepish street with a laden shopping trolley when the wind actually lifted the trolley, pulling me off balance, then it pushed me over and into a wall. I don't know how I survived without damage apart from some scrapes and bruises. I am extremely grateful to the nice young woman who came along and helped me pick myself and my things up.
  6. I haven't seen my cat since last night -- Sunday. He's probably just on a walkabout but I can't help feeling a bit anxious. He is a large male who looks black. He is, in fact a black smoke, with a light grey undercoat and faint ginger tabby markings in sunlight. Hopefully he will come back but any sightings, including bad news ones would be appreciated. ---------- Post added 17-03-2014 at 15:40 ---------- And he's back. Silly creature, silly me.
  7. Coat or Coa' with a glottal stop cos I'm from glo''al stop land.
  8. He does smoke. A teenage friend of mine said that she and her mates give him their cigarettes if the bus comes before they finish them.
  9. Sheffield Venetian Blind co, it's opposite the co op garage at 241 Chesterfield Rd. Not only do they do vertical blinds but they do a nice deal if you are getting three blinds done.
  10. I'm not sure what time they started last (Saturday) night but the noise stopped around 4 am -- so I'm thankful for that. Demolishing the whole bridge? Oh that's going to be horrible...
  11. What do I want? For the work to be done during the day of course! Of course I realise I want doesn't get as the need to keep the traffic flowing trumps my need for a peaceful night. Bus man -- no replacement bus stop -on the upside- say it's not so! It's a long way from opposite Carterknowle Rd to the far side of the bridge. Still if they at least put the downside back in it's not so far to get home with shopping from Woodseats Tescos. Earplugs? I can't be doing wiht those, too paranoid I'd not hear summat important like smoke alarms or burglars.
  12. Am I the only one? I've been waiting for them to fix the bridge and reinstate the bus stops for five years but damn is it a pain in the arse?!
  13. Chesterfield market is great for plants, good variety, decent prices, but be careful of the guy opposite the precinct. He assured me a palnt I wanted to buy was hardy. Got it home, looked it up and it can't take temperatures below 50F/10C -- that's barely going to survive a Sheffield summer, let alone winter, sigh.
  14. I went to the June one last year and there were some very good plant stalls. I have to go back -- all that snow we had killed the lovely alstromeria I bought and I want to get another one.
  15. Very good of you to do this. It's not my cat but the description was pretty close and I live nearby so I've just made an old cat very paranoid by hunting for her throughout the house
  16. The grounds were designed by Robert Marnock, who was involved in the General Cemetery as well as the Botanical Gardens. If they are not listed now -- as the former have been -- there is a good chance that they will be. Frankly the interest this place inspires generally falls under three categories: nosy parkers, busybodies and people who think they could do better if they owned it but, whatever the eventual fate of this place, right now it is up to the owner to do what he wants.
  17. Maxie came back last night, strolled iin as though nowt had happened. Dirty stop out!
  18. My young cat has been missing from Buttermere Rd S7 since the early hours of this morning. he's never been gone for more than an hour or so before so I'm very worried. Maxie is a mackerel (stripy) tabby with white socks and a white blob on his chest. He is a short hair but has a very long and fluffy tail. Any news welcome.
  19. A common cause of campylobacter infection is eating something that has come into contact with a surface where raw chicken has been prepared. When I got it I was vegetarian, so no raw chicken in my house! However, because of the long incubation period, I was unable to say which cafe/sandwich outlet was responsible. It's very nasty :TMI: I pooed blood in alarming quantities. It was days before I could eat anything and about three months before I could tolerate milk again. Now I do eat meat I'm very very careful about hygiene when preparing chicken.
  20. Thomas Sands fought at Waterloo, I should think that his stories were worth drinks for life. His memorial stone has been relocated and is to the left of the Montague Street entrance (off Cemetery Rd). Check out the cemetery's website for a map http://www.gencem.org/
  21. The long a isn't "posh", all Southerners speak that way.
  22. Not all TM drivers are bad, some are lovely, but below is a copy of an email sent to TM over a month ago. I have had an acknowledgement but nothing further. 14.6.10 Dear Sir or Madam, I am contacting you about a disturbing incident on one of your buses today (14.06.10). The bus was a FreeBee which I caught on Paternoster Row at around 6 pm. At Pond Street bus Station my attention was drawn to the driver who was talking to three young lads who were attempting to board. As well as I remenber his words he shouted "Get off my bus or I'll break your <removed> arms and legs". I continued to listen and watch and gleaned that the driver believed these boys to have been involved in a previous dispute with another driver the previous week when he had been a passenger. After further argument the two boys who had boarded the bus got off , saying that they would call the police about the threats. I don't know if they carried this out. Now he may have been justified in refusing to allow the boys on the bus but the tone and wording of the threat was well out of order and quite upsetting to hear. Although I stayed on the bus the more I thought about it I was unhappy about being driven by this man. When I alighted I took a photograph of the bus' numberplate (number removed) I hope you will speak to this driver about his conduct.
