  2. Get him registered with JTL who will sort out the funding for you. If the apprentice is over 21 you may still get the funding but will have to pay for the training. We did this 2 years ago so this may have altered.

I was only making you aware that asbestos could be present and was replying to your previous posts as your OP only stated that you were having problems with plastering in a 1930 property (which hasn't adhered to the original s/c rener (or browning) and pulled off the s/c (or browning). Anybody renovating a property should be concerened about the possible presence of Asbestos.
  4. Asbestos will not be identified on a home survey as samples will have to be taken and examined and this will have to be done by specialists. A lot of houses, pre 70's, contained materials with asbestos as it is a very versitile material, the only problem it was dangerous to health. If your plasterer has 30 years experiance he should be able to sort it out.
  5. Without an asbestos report how can you be sure that it doesn't contain asbestos? Asbestos was still being installed into buildings upto 2000 even though the hazards were well known long before this. I agree with handypandy if it's so bad then it may be better to be removed and a stud wall put up, this would also make it a better surface for the tiler and could improve the sound proofing. If the block isn't as bad as it sounds it may be as well to remove the plaster and 'dot & dab' plaster board, board adhesive will stick to almost everything! Where did you get the plasterer from? It sounds like he's been on a 6 week course as an experianced plasterer should be able to bond to most things including cinder block. Hope you can get it sorted.
  6. Well it's been only 9 days since our bin was last emptied and the bin is just over half full but the stench of rotten OOD chicken that we put in last week is repulsive. All I can say is it's a good job we haven't had hot weather

  8. We looked at buying new premises and approached our bank who wanted 40% deposit, money that we would have needed to renovate the workshops alone. It appears that banks are lending to companies but only if you have the money in the 1st place:suspect:
  9. When we used to have the old bins the bin men would also take any black bags as well, with the wheelie bins this was no longer allowed. Due to the amount of packageing that our shopping is currently contained in, this easily fills half of our bin. Then you have broken/unused items that can't be recycled that fill the bin a bit more and now garden waste that takes up the rest as they've taken away the green bin service. Until I recently read the leaflet for what you are allowed to put in the blue bin we used to put all plactic and glass items, except carrier bags, in and the black bin was only left 1/4 full each week, of 3/4 empty if you prefer:hihi: For us generally the bin only gets 1/2 full with rubbish with the remainder now used for garden waste. I personnally would have prefered the council to take away the blue bins and leave me the green bin as I can easily take the plastics and paper to the recycling points in the car as I used to before we had them. The green waste has to now be taken in the van which I am only allowed to take 3 times/year to the tip and have to arrange access before hand with Veolia:loopy:

Just got our notification through the door and it's the 1st time that I've heard of it. 1st the green bins go, then they do fortnightly collections on the black bins, that are 3/4 to full each week, what next? The reason behind the fortnighly collections is to "save money on waste services" money that we pay to the council through 'council tax'. We keep getting reductions in our council services but not in taxes!

  12. A lot of tenants are taking on properties that are substandard, spending their time and money to bring the properties up to a liveable standard. The reason for this is because if they don't rent the properties, even in the shoddy condition, then someone else will do. The landlords know this and that's why they are getting away with it.
  13. It is often the case that complaints are shouted out for everyone to hear but praise is only whispered. Having not dealt with this letting agent I can't really comment on whether they are any good or not but a lot of problems are caused by the actual landlords that won’t pay for repairs. Arriane I find it quite strange that you and your landlord have to meet up and conspire against the letting agent to get things done My understanding of fully managed lets were that the agents do all the viewings, vetting, and organise repairs but the bills for any repairs the landlord has to pay. As far as I know this is how all the letting agents that we deal with work other than one which take on a property on a 10 year lease. I would highly recommend Cactus property management http://www.cactuspropertymanagement.co.uk/ . They have a permanent maintenance man, Liam, anything that he can't rectify or is beyond his qualifications he'll call us out immediately.
  14. Mybuilder.com, like the SF, has it's share of chancers, falsely advertising they are members of trade organisations and referances from friends and family. I had previously been a member of mybuilder.com and although I won a few jobs I also lost a few to people priceing for jobs cheaper than cost:suspect: I have also had to correct work made by these chancers who have left properties unsafe, costing the customers more money as they didn't feel safe/happy contacting these people to rectify their work. My advice to customers is always ask a trades 'person' to look at the work they are pricing for and bring appropriate certs. , insurance etc., and be sure you are getting what you want. Never employ someone because they are cheap or it could end up with a lot more than money.
  15. They lost their right to appeal but the fight is still going on and the fit will remain at 21p, index linked, from April for systems fitted after 12th December 2011. The appeal process could last for months and if the government finally loses further appeals, which is looking like they will do, then systems fitted after the 12th and before the 3rd March, date currently be talked about but I could be wrong, will qualify for the 43.3p fit rate
  16. The consultation period doesn't end until the 23rd but the FITs at the present rate finishes on the 12th December. Any installations registered after the 12th will receive the reduced rate from April 2012. This has caused outrage and several organisations are trying to take legal action against the Government because of this.   17. In the current climate, or at any time for that matter, how can a supplier treat you like this and expect to get away with it? Having been let down recently myself by 2 wholesalers that I used for years I have found a more reliable supplier elsewhere. If he speaks to all the customers like this then I can't see the company lasting much longer so he my have done you a big favour.
  18. This is disgusting as these installers are making money from installing panels on your roof and claiming the FITs, where you get the free power produced. They should be paying you for this!!! I can't see free panels coming to an end after 12th December but the roofs may have to meet an exact specification to maximise their profit.

Due to the reduction in the FITs being brought forward from April 2012 to December 12th 2011 there has been excessive demand on labour and materials with many wholesalers unable to cope/supply enough parts. This has been compounded as the Customs and excise are apparently checking PV imports which is causing further delays, this may be to ensure that only genuine products enter the country. Anyone looking at having an PV installation carried out before December 12th may encounter installers/suppliers charging excessive amounts. If you are paying for a PV installation then check to make sure that the installers are on MCS accredited scheme or you will not receive the FITs. Also due to this shortage some installers may look at using cheaper panels/invertors
  20. The FITs are due to be reduced to 21p/unit from the 12th of December 2011.This has caused a panic and there seems to be a shortage of PV engineers. If you have PV fitted and registered before this date then you will get the FIT at the higher rate and this will be index linked so will increase with inflation. If PV is fitted after this date then I understand that you will receive the current rate of FIT's but this will be reduced to the new rate in April 2012. With regards to registering I believe that this is just a simple online registration that is carried out by the mcs registered installer and as soon as that is registered then you qualify from that date.

You can only use the view finder and not the LCD display, with this model, while taking photos. I think that it is a great camera for the money but it all depends on the quality of pictures you are wanting.
