  1. I think it was bound to happen. There is a massive gap in the market for the Wal-Mart type super stores here. I heard a while ago that Target were going to start opening stores here as well, and that they already have in mainland Europe. I don't think that we will see a monopoly from Tesco, as I'm sure others will soon follow. I know that Wal-Mart are the biggest retailer in America, but you also have the choice to go to Target, or K-Mart and similar places. The choice is there, but consumers will go where they get the best service and the best price.
  2. And its snowing again now... In Nether Edge at least... not very heavy though.
  3. I think you'd be surprised. So many people are badly educated about sex. I think alot of people believe "unless you mean they male orgasm, in which case no orgasm no baby" which has led to quite a few surprises about 9 months later (or added to the abortion rate). As for the female orgasm being invented in the 60's... aside from the question 'how do you 'invent' an orgasm??' I still can't quite get my head around that statement. If there was better education about sex out there, maybe there wouldn't be such a need for abortions.
  4. That statement is flawed in EVERY way.. see this is why we need better sex education.
  5. I agree, I think it speaks to men alot more. I can't help but cry when 'Doc' has to make the choice between playing baseball or saving the little girl...gets me every time!
  6. You get one free when you pay your road tax.
  7. I have had an online stalker, and she could tell it was me in chatrooms by the way I typed! Very scary, I had changed my user names as I didn't want to stop using the rooms all together, but that didn't seem to help. I think that usually a cooling off period seems to work, taking a break from the internet for a couple of months works a treat.
  8. Well, I wasn't being that serious, but I think more education of the major faiths is a good idea. When I was at school we learnt hardly anything about other faiths
  9. I'm against faith schools really, that should be taught at home and in the place of worship. Isn't it a bit daft to say that these schools are failing by not teaching other religions? Isn't it a bit like saying that a football academy is failing by not teaching enough rugby?!?
  10. But if a child has turned out to be trouble after sitting in a room watching TV all day, maybe opening them up to experiences that they have never been lucky enough to have might make them appreciate life and other people a bit more. Locking kids up and throwing away the key might not really be the answer, who knows? I think rather than sending kids away on holidays after they have committed crimes, it would be better that people who cannot afford to give there children more life experience than a playstaion and playing out on the street in the summer holiday should give contraception more thought. Anyway, from what I've seen of Butlins, I'm not sure that it ISN'T a punishment!
  11. I agree, I don't think that it was a work of evil, but that there was evil brought out on all sides. I think that while the statement that no side should be thought of as the 'good guys' isn't quite true, I think that it should be considered that no side was devoid of evil. I think the Britain wasn't completely free of shame after the war, Arthur Harris wouldn't exactly be in my list of war heroes (I'd probably go as far as to consider him evil after reading about his views on fellow human beings), but I don't think that should detract from the allied countries being proud of the part they played in fighting for 'good'.
  12. Sorry, I meant both Top Cat and The Flintstones were made in Colour but shown in B&W.
  13. Yeah, Top Cat (Boss Cat as it was known here) was based on Sgt Bilko, and I don't think it was ever kept secret. The characters of Benny in Top Cat, and Doberman on The Phil Silvers Show were both played by Maurice Gosfield. As for the Flintstones the four main characters were based on the four main characters from The Honeymooners. Both of these series were made in colour but were shown in black and white when they were first on TV.
  14. Just out of interest... what is the Sheffield connection to the film? I'm not questioning it, was just curious because it was filmed in Derbyshire and the writer is from Nottingham... wondering if it was made by a Sheffield company or something?
  15. I don't think I've been in any fights since school. I seem to have stepped in to stop quite a few, but I don't think that counts. Nobody ever seems to want to fight me. I'm surprised to hear that some people weren't drunk when they had a fight. I can sort of understand fighting when drunk, but how do you get into a fight sober... unless defending yourself?
  16. hehe, what happened to that thing about not being allowed on after midnight by Mr Strix?
  17. Set all dogs free from their slave like existance in human homes! :D
  18. Yeah, I'm sort of split on this thing. When I was younger I never understood the obsession with bands and such, and I've never understood how people can become obsessed with people they don't know. However, I recently watched a film and was extremely attracted to an actress, to the point of infatuation, and began to rethink the whole thing, and it seems that I am far from alone... I was wondering if this is a part of normal human nature. That is why I began this thread... just a lighthearted thing.
  19. Oh, and if you wanna see one for real, there is one at the sheffield butterfly house place. http://www.butterflyhouse.co.uk/
  20. If you get sprayed the smell can stay on you for weeks. If you get one that sprays in your house it is not uncommon to have to throw away your furniture etc. I hear that bathing in tomato juice can help to relieve the odor if you are unlucky enough to be a victim.
  21. Yeah, have to agree with this too. Lots of people seem to be 'different' now, and if poor spelling like 'magik' is anything to go by then I'm sure most of us qualify to be witches too. But hey, each to their own, everyone should have a hobby or interest. Just glad to see nobody is proposing a hunt and burning like they would have in the past.
  22. Yeah, agree with that. I think that to obsess over something or someone is just asking for trouble, and probably indicates that something is missing in your life. What I'm referring to isn't that kind of obsession, not having to read everything about them and wacth everything they're in... Just seeing something in someone... you might never watch them again, or read about them, but just some sort of strange connection and involvement at that time of watching... The kind of thing that would inspire you to write a song... hmm... I'll see what my therapist says.
  23. Hmm... OK, this thread has come about after reading several things. One was the love at first sight thread, another was the weather presenter thread in which someone is in love with a news presenter... these things got me to thinking about an actress infatuation incident that happened to me recently. I was watching a film, and go so involved that I started to become rather infatuated with the actress... or maybe the character, not sure... Anyway, with these things in mind, I then read a story about the Counting Crows lead singer Adam Duritz and how he wrote the song 'Mrs Potters Lullaby' about the actress Monica Potter... "I came up with the chorus music and the first chorus. And then I stopped and said to myself, "How can I write a whole song about someone I don't even know? It's not gonna go anywhere, it's a total dead end. It's automatically trite and false." But I was enthralled with it. I wondered what else I could do." I felt that this was rather sweet, until I read on and discovered that he was then introduced to her after she heard about the song and then they started dating... which was pretty sickening, as I don't have the talent to write a song, and I'm not famous either, so even if I did she would never hear it. So... does anyone else suffer/has suffered this strange problem, or did they grow out of it after there teen years? I'm not talking about being a fan of someone, having posters on your wall, etc... rather an infatuation of someone that you haven't met, be it an actress, actor, or news presenter, or even the girl in the local chip shop.
  24. I'm a fan, but my team are the Panthers, so I'd rather not talk about it at the moment.
  25. Yep, agree, nothing wrong with a quick slap, and nobody will be getting sent down for a quick slap. It's only if it causes some sort of injury, bruising for example.
