  1. I really wasn't aware of this until today, but saw this morning on BBC news online about the Avian Pox that is hitting Great Tit's across the UK. If you didn't know and want to find out more about it just google Great Tit Avain Pox. We are asked to watch out and report any sitings of this in our garden birds presumably to the RSPB. Also to make sure that bird boxes, tables and all feeding and drinking stations are kept clean and disinfected. I must admit I always scrubbed them in hot soapy water etc but did not disinfect. I apologise if I am preaching to the converted:rolleyes:
  2. My Hubby and I just came back from visiting my family in Glasgow and we broke the journey this time by staying at Moffat which is near Dumfries (before) . It's a pretty little town nestled into the hills. It's just past Gretna Green as you come over the border.
  3. This exactly is what giving the Government ammuntion to go ahead and pull the plug on Legal Aid for Debt, Housing and Social Welfare. It tars everyone with the same brush, and gives no credence to those who are in genuine need of benefits and advice on how to claim.
  4. Hi Pure Enough Try this site, think they are Heeley area http://www.ancientwisdom.biz/aromatherapy/ Note: Trade only though
  5. Carita I will certainly do my best to be there on the 3rd. Although not too many votes on the Poll on who has used Legal Aid, 64% say they have. With regards to the Legal Aid for Social Welfare Law which will almost all be taken out of scope for funding. Not sure how many realise that many Advice Centres are Not For Profit and if the cuts go ahead they will be forced to close their doors. CAB's are already losing funding through the Local Council cuts. This will mean that the help and advice to those with Genuine needs whether it be Benefits, Debt or Housing will no longer get the kind of face to face advice they need, and may be reduced to telephone advice only. There are many who cannot access a telephone line or cope with complex questions and forms that are involved, or who are already under immense stress and unable to note down or retain the information provided. Surely access to justice is a basic human right and should be available to the the genuinely disadvantaged. Is this what the Government really wants????
  6. Many thanks for your advice, someone recommended on the forum has been to have a look today, and have had some good advice on how to move forward.
  7. Thank you for replies. Is there anyway we can overcome this though. If it is the PRV they are talking about. (it's a Baxi) If boilers are fairly common in cellars, what do others do. It may be ok to manage this for yourself, but it's no good if you want to sell a property:(
  8. We presently have a Combie boiler in our cellar, fitted for previous owner. Every time we have British Gas to service, they moan about the Flue exiting on the outside wall, but told it's safe but not to current standards. They accept there is not much we can do about it! This time we have been told the fact that the overflow pipe is not connected to an outside outlet, (currently runs into a bucket) is marking it down as at risk. We don't at this time want to go to the expense of a new boiler and would like advice as to any solution that gets it past British Gas in the future. Many thanks Aberdeen
  9. Thanks for your comments Sorry have not been on to reply.
  10. Has anyone used Bloors or Browns Estate Agents recently? We are putting our house up for sale and have been put off Haybrooks by the comments on the site. Need some advice please
  11. Unfortunately I don't think this area is covered by Legal Aid so it may be necessary to pay for a Solicitor's advice. You also may find some do a free initial consultation (about a half hour) which may at least give you the chance to explain your situation. I think, although there is a charge some Solicitors do carry out home visits, you could google Will and Probate Solicitors in Sheffield. Also not sure if they still do yellow pages. but I think some Solicitors in their adverts stated whether they provided that first free consultation.
  12. Sorry about your circumstances. I may be wrong, but unfortunately I think only one family member can claim that carer's allowance, so you need to check with nearest CAB, maybe Chesterfield or if you have a local Advice Centre. Good luck.
  13. I suggest you visit your local CAB or an Advice Centre where there is a Debt Advisor, they may be able to approach the company on your behalf and add a little more weight.
  14. I hope this post will be ok on here, just wanted to reach out. Have also posted on General Discussions. This may not be that publicly known, but the proposed cuts to Legal Aid will mean that amongst some other catergories, free advice for Welfare Benefits, Debt and Housing will be withdrawn, unless it looks like your home is at risk. This is due to be decided finally in February sometime. If they do make these cuts, there will be no funding for face to face support and advice, and might mean places like CAB's having to close. They say there will be a telephone helpline, but how many people will happy to discuss personal and difficult issues over the phone, and what about the complex forms that need to be completed when they are frightened and feeling vunerable. If anyone is interested, I have joined a group which support the continuation of Legal Aid is these areas, we need to speak up. Please, if you able and in agreement that these cuts should not take place. Join and support this cause. http://www.justice-for-all.org.uk
