  1. It's true that bodies are still buried underneath. My Great Grandfather was killed in the Marples and his body was never recovered.
  2. Thompsons Solicitors - check out their website. Is he a member of a Trade Union?
  3. My daughter is in the same year as one of the girl's sister. It sounds a terrible accident on what should have been a fun day for them. We hope all the girls make a speedy recovery and my thoughts are with them and their families.
  4. Maureen is my mum. She was known as Maureen Wragg then. She worked at Laycocks until approximately 1960. She later returned to work in the canteen at Little London. She was known as Maureen Barker then. My dad Terry Barker also used to work in the Hardy Pick. They would love to hear from anyone who can remember them.
  5. M/Hell:- Felt sorry for the people who work there, not for the buisnesses but I hate the place ,capitalism at it's worse!!!
  6. The plants are in tubs and baskets , they need water!!! If the council were to leave them, they would get critcised , if they water them ,enter Britain in Bloom ,they will get criticised?? can't win can they!! Don't you think the bigggest message Sheffielders and the council can give out, is after all the crap we have gone through this last week, after all the hard work in the clear up, let's show we can make the area's that were badley flooded were people live and work looking as nice as possible , and life needs to go on?
  7. What a load of tosh!! During the flood the rivers in sheffield burst their banks!!, have you not seen the footage, pictures etc. there is no gully/channel/culvert in the world that would be able to hold that amount of water in that short space of time !! If I where you Willman I would reconsider your opinion!!!
  8. Thanks for this Willman, I will be utterly disgusted in this country that I am normally proud of if they do not give any council aid for the rebuilding of the city's network infrastructure!! I feel proud when we help countries around the world , this time it is Sheffield, Doncaster and Rotherham's turn!! Come on MP's and councillors make sure this happens and that the allocation of funds are put into the correct area's where it is needed in rebuilding the Highway network , flood prevention, and homes where people have been flooded, and River management and maintenance.
  9. Are you serious? Did you not see on all the photo's, video's, news footage etc. that it was the rivers that broke their banks, I know from a good source that all low lying gullies had been cleared prior to last Mondays rain, it was the shear volume of rain that fell over 10 hours + that caused the rivers to over flow!!
  10. The bill for the clear up and the Highway infrastructure repairs surely need to come from a government disaster fund, this will cripple the city council if they have to stand for this, it will be hundeds of Millions of £'s needed. Do we know if anyone within the council is lobbying for this aid???
  11. Sandbags were asked for this weekend, but Sheffield council informed them they had to fetch them from Olive grove !! It's going to be months before all families can return home but all the residents are being left to fend for themselves. I am sorry to hear this , as I have have a contact there I asked them to see if they could help, and that I know sandbags where delivered there yesterday (Sat) , so please make sure your relative/friend knows about this. Streetforce have tried to help everyone's request for sandbags , there are still 1000's at Olive Grove depot if anyone can help them get them out. I know all the properties where residential homes have been affected by the flooding Streetforce have delivered 1000's of sandbags there. They have also been the only service clearing out all the rivers , bearing in mind that these area's are not within council ownership , these are the Environmental Agency's problem, I saw them yesterday on Leppings Lane with a massive crane pulling trees out of the River Don behind the Wednesday ground. Plus Lady's Bridge on The Wicker they have cleared!!
  12. I have just heard months now rather than weeks, from a very good highways source!!
