  1. No, you didn't remember correctly. They do pay Council Tax. And no-one has ever heard the 'chinese meal joke' before....
  2. Xmas doesn't fall in every month, but matters such as crime and road traffic initiatives, murder scenes, incident-related operations, the floods and other Bank Holidays can do.
  3. You couldn't resist the sarcasm regarding 'policing football matches' could you? If you must know, I worked throughout Christmas on 'nights' thereby missing out (again) on seeing my daughter open her presents plus the other celebrations that you and others take for granted. And yes, I did know the job entailed such sacrifices when I joined almost 20 years ago. What I also believed then and know for sure now, is that anyone who completes 30yrs of the job deserves every single penny of their so-called 'gold-plated' pension.
  4. And do 'most people' pay £324.92 towards their pension, as I did this and every other month? No. I agree the pension scheme is a good one, but look at the sums we contribute towards it!
  5. With respect, I think your response should have been directed to 'Waldershelf' and not me - it was he/she that doubted integrity.
  6. Wrong! You've clearly been watching too much 'Life On Mars' ALL material produced during an investigation HAS to be presented, whether it would hinder/help either the Defence or Prosecution cases. Strict regulations under an Act of Law were brought in a good number of years ago. If you're going to slag the Police off, at least get your facts right.
  7. He may begin doing so, when he finds out a lady is interested in him!
  8. The simple answer is I don't know if crime is down and/or detection rates are up since they were introduced. TBH I doubt if such statistical analysis has been made. However, having spoken to numerous crminals over the years about Police helicoptors, I can say that they are in fear of them as they can reach locations and obtain evidence much more effectively in certain situations, than Officers on the ground. And that fear is surely a good thing for us all, regardless of how 'intrusive' some think they are...
  9. Would you consider them "distracting and intrusive", if the "petty crimes" they were attending were YOUR house that was being broken into? YOUR car that had been stolen? YOUR young child that had wandered off? No, I didn't think so. How selfish are you? And in answer to one of your other comments, it costs as much to keep them on the ground as it does to send them to incidents.
  10. In order to allow Harry to strike down Paul Hudson after another cheeky comment about Christa, per chance?
  11. I like the theory depoix, but Harry is always on the right of Christa etc
  12. Having just flicked through a few TV channels this evening, why is it that male presenters are always on the left and women on the right (as we view them)? Picture these who have been on in the last hour for example:- Look Leeds - Harry/Christa Calendar - Duncan/Christine ITV News - Mark/Mary The One Show - Adrian/Christine. (Even their guests this evening had this formation:- Adam Hart-Davies/Carol Vorderman). Is it coincidence, or do I need to get out more often....?
  13. Quite correct Chairboy. They're showing Cit-eh v. The Cheats.
  14. A mate of mine called John did an excellent job with our new bathroom. Highly recommended. 07956 502850.
  15. Bago, we've 'jousted' before on this thread and clearly agree to disagree on many of the aspects of this incident. I respect your opinions. I hope you respect mine. However, can I take you back to my contributions at #13 and 30 on the thread? It refers to the investigation that was to be conducted by the IPCC (who many months later have totally absolved the Officer of any blame). Having been investigated myself by them (for an entirely unrelated matter), I can assure you 100% that no stone would have been unturned by them in search for evidence against the Officer. I hope this allays your fears.
  16. Getting back on topic (and for the benefit of those remotely interested), the driver of the vehicle arrested was not a known "druggie", nor was he subsequently charged with any offences directly drug-related. Apologies if this disappoints those 'Low Edges Haters' out there and sincere apologies for any front lawns damaged by pursuing vehicles.
  17. Must agree with you on this one. There are no such places as "Upper Stannington" or "Lower Stannington"!!!! Have a look on an Ordnance Survey Map; old and new maps of Sheffield, or indeed any other source you can find - they don't exist!!! In fact the only reference I can think off is the place on the Liberty Estate that is called "Lower Stannington Community Centre" (or something like that).
  18. For which the Officer was totally acquitted of any blame several weeks ago, following a thorough and lengthy investigation by an Independent body. Keep up.
  19. Well said Wizadoo. I am personally aware of exactly what happened and the nature of the incident - which obviously I'm not going to discuss here. Suffice to say 'Daftlad' and others, it doesn't pay to jump to anti-Police conclusions, when you are making assumptions based merely on press releases from that 'reliable' source called 'The Star'
  20. It was written and sung by Andrew Gold in the late 70's - he also had a hit with 'Never Let Her Slip Away'
  21. Just tried on 'picture sheffield.com' for you. A total of x18 old photos of pubs in Sheffield by that name. And guess what, not one of them is yours. Sorry! I'm sure someone else on here will know where to look.
  22. Start at 9pm tonight, finish at 7am. Same on Xmas Day:(
  23. Your'e guaranteed an extremely quiet drink in The Gardeners!
