  1. Absolute rubbish. A male was assaulted in the early hours of Saturday morning on Park Grange Road, close to its' junction with Beeches Avenue. He was conveyed to the NGH for treatment to his injuries.
  2. FGS don't anyone phone up and make a complaint about that! More wasted resources!!
  3. Regardless of how daft the whole scenario is (and I happen to think it is ridiculous), they are investigating a "complaint", just in the same way as if your house was broken into. I agree totally that time and money shoud be directed elsewhere, but, hey ho, this is the society we are living in today.
  4. "Having an affair whatever occupation you have is no big deal" is what you should have said. I worked extensively in private industry before I joined the Police and can assure you that 'affairs' are no more common in the Police than anywhere else. Wherever you get males and females working together in any environment, then relationships form. I suggest others who deny this happens is walking around with their heads in the sand. I suspect this is just another excuse for you to display your 'anti-police' stance on whatever topic that comes upon this Forum which is remotely connected to the Police.
  5. Surely coincidence. Wendy's crowds are falling, so how can the problem on match days be getting worse?
  6. For drinking coffee whilst on duty? How dare they!
  7. Thanks for the stats. To save others having to read through the reports, it's fair to say that a huge majority of those killed at work each year were working in the industries of construction, agriculture forestry and fishing. Many of them tragic accidents or neglect on the part of employers/employees. Nobody on the thread has actually stated that it is a profession where you are more likley to be fatally injured than any other. Rather, the dangers which many incidents involve and that Officers potentially face on a daily basis are greater. Even the most appararently routine and straightforward job can unexpectedly turn into something into more serious. Other than that, I largely agree with your most recent comments above.
  8. a) Yes they will. Whether this RA takes seconds, minutes or longer. The safety of the Officer and the general public (and that includes you, remember!) is paramount. Would you expect an Officer to attempt to overpower a bloke with a Samurai sword on his/her own? b) Give us a link to these 'statistics' then....
  9. In the late 70's, as the result of the 'Edmund Davies' report, there was a large recruitment drive for Police Officers. So now in 2008, many of these 'new recruits' from then are coming to the end of their 30yrs of service, with a large proportion retiring. This is a situation that Senior Management have obviously known about all along, so you would have thought they would have budgeted for this over the last few years in the form of a proportionate increase in recruits, wouldn't you? The answer is 'No'. In order to save money, there is a total freeze for at least a year and probably longer on the recruitment of POLICE Officers (note this is not the case with the largely powerless PCSO's). Hence, there shall be over 100 less Officers on the streets during the next year. Now I totally understand that because of a 10% cut in funding from Government, the savings had to come from somewhere. But as I've said above, surely couldn't have allowances for the known shortfall now, have been accounted for years ago? The thin blue line gets thinner, I'm afraid.....
  10. Totally agree with you. Ange and the staff put a real effort into making everyone welcome and it makes at difference. Glad it's my local:) As for the Hare & Hounds, I heard a rumour that the brewery company who own the premises, also own the land where sadly-missed cricket pitch used to be behind. Would be a real shame if they were allowed to build on there. Can anybody confirm this rumour or otherwise?
  11. You're quite right about lack of room for them Sara, as all 110 Police cells in South Yorkshire were full by 1am this morning, albeit by no means were they all occupied by drunks.
  12. How about using one of the many car parks surrounding Washington Road flats on the other side of Cemetary Road? They never seem full. Your car will probably be on a pile of bricks on your return, though...
  13. You're correct doddicus. A serious one I'm afraid.
  14. It will do CB, but only if 'certain key players' have recovered from injury:suspect:
  15. St. Mirren away. Midweek night game. Set off at 9am. 1 coachload. No warm snap. No beer. No heating on bus. Got hammered 4-0. 550 mile round trip. Home at 6am. Work at 7. Silly *******? Seen Blades in 'europe' though! Didn't see you there Gaz?
  16. I don't think it is that place HH. The one I very vaguely remember was more of less where KFC/Pizza Hut is now on Penistone Road - opposite the dogs. May be wrong, of course! (UTB).
  17. If they don't know about it, how can they respond?? It doesn't have to be the OP for a Public Order complaint, it could be anyone........yes, even you could do something positive.
  18. No, it's not the Police who are too lenient, it's the CPS who decide whether to prosecute or not. As others have said on here, CCTV evidence is available and a witness to this appalling behaviour (the OP) is available. The bloke who was spat on may not be identified and the Conductress may not wish to become involved, but if a complaint is made, these scumbags could be prosecuted under the Public Order Act. But as I've said above (and on countless other related threads previously) it's down to a CPS decision in the likely event these 'angels' deny responsibility.
  19. Correct that HQ is not designated for that, but West Bar shall be open for a while yet, I can assure you. The 'powers that be' are currently looking for alternative premises, but to put it politely, seem to have missed the boat regarding affordable premises in suitable locations City Centre-ish.
  20. And having made fourteen contributions to this thread, then I would imagine neither have you.....
  21. Could I respectfully request this thread is now closed, because:- a) The OP has thanked everyone for their (sensible) contributions and, b) It is necessery to prevent anymore readers' eyes from bleeding by reading posts that Begin Every Word With A Capital........
  22. Anybody else have fond memories of this place? Low ceilings; curved walls; a huge bar that virtually ran the length of the pub; great atmosphere at weekends. But what was the name of the lager that guaranteed a major hangover the morning after?
