  1. My job takes me to virtually all suburbs of Sheffield and from personal experience, can confidently say that Stannington is one of the 'better' areas in this respect. Furthermore, how possible is it to produce 'stats' to equate litter/yob problems?
  2. No, their mentors only remain with them 'one on one' for around the first twelve weeks (in South Yorks anyway). However, given the cicumstances of the incident as I understand it, it is doubtful that Officers of far greater service would have reacted (or more pertinently had chance to react) any different to Pc's Beshenivsky and Milburn.
  3. In answer to a comment made by Darbees in his/her first contribution to this thread, namely:- "Why were two Probationers with little experience working with each other". I can state that Bradford Police are probably in the same situation as their colleagues here in Sheffield, in so much as the average length of service for a patrol Officer reacting to such incidents as Pc Beshenivsky and her colleague did, is currently just under four years. I can assure you that in Sheffield, this is a fact.
  4. Mart, as Medusa indicates, stretching helps immensely. I have suffered from it chronically, but regular stretching exercises have worked. For example:- a) Lie on your front. Take hold of one of your ankles and pull your leg up until the heel gets as close to (and preferably touches) your backside. Hold for 20 seconds. Three repetitions on each leg. b) Lay on your back, lift a leg until vertical, hold both hands on the back of the knee and point your toes upwards. Hold for 20 seconds. Three repetitons on each leg. c) Stand a face a wall which is about two ft away. Place palms against the wall, and lean against it with your back straight, feet a few inches apart and one of them about 18 inches closer to the wall than the other. Hold for 20 seconds. Three repetitions on each leg. When the pain was at its worst, I did these up to five times a day. Worked wonders. Good luck!
  5. I shall have the "pleasure" of spending the whole of Xmas Day with 6 women. Wife, Daughter, Mother, Mother-In-Law, Sister-In-Law, Niece........AAAARGH! Does anyone disagree that it's only fair for me to spend Boxing Day in the pub wi' mi mates before and after watching the Blades at Beautiful Down Town Bramall Lane?!
  6. The village of Stannington meets a lot of you're criteria. Good public transport links to Sheffield (with the Malin Bridge tram stop plus park & ride less than two miles away). Situated right on the edge of the beautiful Peak District, with a good range of shops and pubs in the village. It has a low crime rate (hope I'm not tempting fate!) and no worse a yob/litter problem than the 'best' areas of Sheffield. The only stumbling block may be your price limit of 150k - although this depends largely on what size of property you are looking for. Good luck anyway.
  7. Don't worry PrincessSam, I agree with you 100%. And no, you're not an old person, just someone, like me, who believes in standards and decency with regards to what children wear.
  8. You're right Greybeard, I was in the 7th, which was based at Stannington Methodists Church in the early/mid 70's. Great fun, although Muddycoffee is correct in identifying that indoor football took up a major part of the evening. I can remember going to the old Montgomery Hall on Surrey Street to collect my uniform only a few weeks after the place was almost destroyed in a fire. What year would that be anyone??
  9. Terry Garbett, Cliff Calvert, Dennis Longhorn, John Flood, Mike Guy, Craig Renwick, Andy Keeley, Tony Moore, Len De Goey, Derek Richardson, Duggie Brown, Martin Kuhl, Cliff Powell, Darren Carr, Paul Williams, Mike Lake, Nathan Peel, Jonas Wirmola, Mark Foran, Phil Starbuck, Kingsley Black, Paul Holland, Mark Beard, Brett Angell, Gary Ablett, John (£1m for 45mins) Ebbrell, Jon Cullen, Des Hamilton, Jonathan Hunt, Andy Campbell.............aaaaaaghh! And we criticise the current lot?!
  10. Bobby Ford by a country mile. The worrying thing at the time was that Warnock regularly said that he was "the first name on my team sheet" !!!
  11. Went for a drink there the weekend before last. Nice place, but the service at the bar was appalling. Mind you, if it's your wedding, then you won't have to worry about visiting that location!
  12. Anybody on here that doesn't live at the top of Stannington? so do I !! and yes Miss Patricia, we are lucky indeed. Only been here for 43 years, so don't think i can call myself a local yet!
  13. From a reliable source, armed Police attended to prevent a bloke with mental problems from blowing his missus away with a gun he was brandishing. Protecting the female who was being threatened and also the general public.
  14. I remember seeing The Alex Harvey Band there. Came onto stage over an hour late (p***ed as usual), carrying a can of 'Kestrel' Lager in one hand and a pair of Ladies 60-denier tan-coloured tights in the other. He then pulled one of the legs of the tights over his head and drank the lager through them. Priceless. And 'Sensational' !!!
  15. Canadablade, with Redbee being a man u fan, I wonder if its too late to contact The Marriott and replace the processed ham sandwiches with those containing prawns....?"
  16. Canadablade, it would probably be cheaper for Redbee to book flight to Toronto and watch the match in a bar with you! Mind you, she'd miss out on the processed ham sandwiches, vol-au-vents and cheese/pineapple on sticks at The Marriott, let alone the trip t'lane in the back of of a Minibus!
  17. Redbee, there are tickets remaining via the ows, but these are included in the 'corporate package', retailing at £175 per person.......OUCH!!
  18. Should have added that a youth was arrested for the assault at the scene(and the second one was arrested for threatening the lad who had already been detained by the Police).
  19. "The Police come along, question a few people and then let them go". The FACTS are that the Police responded yesterday afternoon to increasing problems between two rival gangs. A youth sustained a broken jaw as the result of being hit in the face (not slashed as previously guessed at) and a second youth was arrested for threatening behaviour.
  20. Anybody know any 'legal' off-road Dirtbiking areas in the Sheffield area?
