  1. Yes its true, the one who used the knife is safely locked away for now.
  2. I was right it was druggie and dealer falling out, well thats what I heard.
  3. Its probably a dispute among the druggies that infest the area around the Wyvern and the Maisonettes on Spotswood Close. Its getting worse day by day.
  4. I have just retired from the Cutlery trade after 48years and I loved every minute of it apart from the last 13 years at David Mellors, the work I was asked to turn out was disgusting, most of the work I did was very high quality at George Butlers and British Silverware and I was proud to put my name to it but when a firm buys from abroad and sells it on as their product its wrong.
  5. Thats interesting as both my grandfather and great grandfather did the exact jobs
  6. I have been on the 47 bus on at least two occasions when Control has spoken to the driver and he has been instructed to go to the Herdings Terminus, put SORRY NOT IN SERVICE on his Indicator, then run empty to Town to go on another route and the result is that leaves a bus missing on the 47/48 route again. I have been told by several people they have heard the very same thing. All the Managerial Staff at First should be made to ride their inconsistent bus service for six months just to feel the frustration that we all seem to face every single day --- BUT --- Im lucky than most of the posters on this thread I have only two working days to go for retirement, so no more getting late to work, no more getting home late, if I do go out to catch a bus after Wednesday and its missing Ill just go back home.
  7. You are probably right I was just saying what we as schoolkids were told, now ive thought about it, I can remember a black German made car was always parked outside one of the cottages, again I was only a child and the car could have been from some other european country, I know for a fact it wasnt a Volkswagen but I just cannot remember its make. Got it it was a WARTBURGH is it German?
  8. That was Bowden Homestead Farm, I remember it when I was at St Theresas School as our playing fields were down there and the only cottages were at the bottom of Prince but that does not mean there were any others, its just that they are the ones I can remember.
  9. I agree with every word you say, the Herdings service is terrible as someone has already mention why not just re-route for a while if the roadworks are that bad? I have always said that the route itself is too long,it should just run from Shiregreen to town and likewise from Herdings. One thing that does annoy me is the fact that the 47 is the only bus I can catch home and the bus gets packed with people who live around the Heeley Green area, result people like me have to stand up from town to Heeley Green, you cant blame the people they need to get home too, but this is the ONLY bus I can catch, I stand up all day at work and its nice to sit down going home. I must say that it is better now with the double deckers of course but thats only when they turn up.
  10. Named after a John Nodder ( 1680 - 1732 ) a lead mine owner who also owned land at Woodthorpe. Paulet Rd was after Amyas Paulet a Puritan who was appointed keeper to Mary Queen Of Scotts during her imprisoment in England untill her death. The Book you need is STREET NAMES OF SHEFFIELD by PETER HARVEY it can be bought at SHEFFIELD SCENE on SURREY STREET price £17.95 and worth every penny.
  11. Does anyone know what the explosions were this morning at around 8.30 a.m. and where they happened?
  12. I knew Peter and Seb, Peter was the production Director at George Butlers when I worked there and Seb also worked there when he was on holiday fro College and University, Seb had to do all the hard jobs too, most of the time he was in the press shop.
  13. Has anyone any Idea what film is being shot on Ringinglow around Upper Burbage Bridge ? All the transport and caravans are parked up in The Norfolk Arms car park.
  14. Next time you see some pensioners just remember this you will be one of them one day.
  15. It happened round about six weeks ago,an electrical fault seemed to be the cause.
  16. That Kathleen Malone is my cousin and Im sure she didnt marry, she had a brothers called Victor and James her Mum and Dad were called William and Ethel and they had a Greengrocers shop on Woodseats Rd. Her brother Victor and herself sold the house on Meersbrook Ave and bought a new one not to far away. Both of her parents have passed away and I believe Jimmy did get married.
  17. Im sorry but I see Sheffield Items nearly ever day.
  18. I worked there in the early sixties and it was called Lee & Wigfull and I enjoyed every minute I worked there. I worked on their solid knife production, some of the patterns I can remember, Ascot,York,Goodwood, Malton as you can see they were named after Racecourses. They also produced great cutlery with Stag handles all of the Stag handles were colour matched by eye by the Stag Cutler not like to-day where most of the handles are all dyed the same colour but the natural colours are best. They also made a range of knives For Kellogs Corn Flakes where by you saved vouchers from Corn Flake packets and you could get fairly decent silver plated cutlery, I seem to remember that you could have your Intial put on the Knife handles (but I may be wrong about that.)
  19. I was at work to-day BUT I work in Hathersage and at 10.44a.m. I was on my break so I stood outside and the Lancaster went straight over me at a height of around 150 ft, bloody fantastic!
  20. I have cable t.v. and on channel 870 I get the local Calender, mainly sheffield and Leeds very rarely gets a mention Im glad to say.
  21. Any G.T. news stock the Irish Papers, I buy mine at the bottom on Norfolk St just below the Crucible on the other side of the road.
  22. The Earl Of Arundel`s closure is nothing to do with who owns it, it closed because (contrary to stories in the Star) the people who held the licence have done a runner, they are the same people who were thought to be responsible for the Irish Heartland ( The Alexandra) closing.
  23. I can remember a Polish bloke called Big John cant remember his surname though, Ii know he lived on the manor but I didnt meet him till the late sixties early seventies and my first thought was, "he isnt that big" because Im six foot two and he didnt look taller or bigger than me - but - he was a good bloke,in fact all the poles I have met have been o.k.
