  1. The Riverside pub on the corner of Corporation street, sells a fantastic range of local beers too, just around the corner from the fat cat, which has just as many, but the riverside has a better beer garden, for when it's sunny ( remember that anyone )
  2. Hey I CAN'T speed, I have a VW camper, It is almost impossible to even attain the speed limits, that is not the point, I am not condoning anyone who drives too fast, my point is that most bad things that happen on the road are not related to speed, but ALL the enforcement that the police carry out is directed at otherwise law abiding motorists who are a few mph over the limit. they SHOULD be looking at things like foreign trucks whose drivers don't take regular breaks and often fall asleep at the wheel, many fatal accidents are caused by things like this. Hell there aren't even Police on the motorways anymore, these Highways agency 4x4s are full of people no more qualified than your average lollipop man, their only task is to sweep the rubbish up after an accident, whilst the police are sitting inside listening out for "homophobic" and "racist" incidents, ie people talking on the radio. They take action if anything like that happens, the country has gone mad.
  3. Er...... So they should put up a Jaywalking camera, if they want to keep people safe on the parkway then ?? and all those pedestrians out for a stroll along the M1 at J 30 ?? what about them ? They will feel a lot better when a runaway slovakian lorry doesn't run them over because the driver is having his regulation rest stops honest guv? Do Speed cameras help to detect things like that ?
  4. More to the point, - Did the police do anything ?
  5. We won't get any more european development money, Its all going to Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia Latvia Etc Etc. perhaps that's why Sainsburys pulled out ?
  6. People !! Where are those sneaky coppers today, lets keep our eyes open for them hiding behind bushes etc, obviously we shouldn't speed, but if we make sure everone knows where they are, then they won't catch anyone, won't get any cash from us, and they will have to abandon the whole enterprise. I think that they are ruining the relationship between the police and the public, and that is making all our lives worse. The police are there " to protect and to serve" they are doing neither with their cash generating cameras, they are not stopping one single speeding offence, more so by hiding, they are merely taking a photograph after the event. If you get burgled, or your car is broken into, they couldn't give a toss, they won't even come round ( unless there is some hair or blood at the scene ) PLEASE !!!!! you know when its approaching 6pm though, they are all racing, sirens on back to the nick for their tea break.
  7. No but it is a prison and also a church.... Yes people used to go to Church on Sunday, now they all rush to Meadowhell in their chaved up Vauxhall Corsas, and worship on the altar of consumerism, until they get so into debt on their credit and store cards, that they have to go on the Trisha show, then they blame their parents for never buying them NIKE trainers out off the Great Universal catalogue for 20 weeks at 1.99 when they were young. The tower could be a dome like St Paul's Cathedral. I think it will start to decline now, many shops are empty, and its not worth going there any more. What shall we use it for when everyone is skint ???
  8. Well put Joyphil ! I can't add anything, other than to say that this council have wreaked havoc and misery on the entire area around S8 / S7. The morons in the town hall are obsessed in their campaign to make driving a misery, hardly any roads in this area are not littered with speed bumps, and those not so affected, are in such awful condition that it is painful to drive on them at any speed. We should organise an uprising, the people in East Germany got fed up with being treated like this and kicked the Berlin wall over, we should do something similar to the Town hall.
  9. Go for Virgin, I pay £40.50 a month, joined up recently after leaving last year, it isn't perfect in every way, but I used to belong to Esporta, where the gym is rubbish in comparison, and they now charge £56.00 a month. Greens is ok but there isn't much atmosphere and its all a little bit dull. plus you can box with Bomber Graham at virgin.
  10. It would have to be a mobile gatso camera, otherwise it couldn't see you at that time, so no flash = you're OK, car speedo's are not 100% accurate, so even at an indicated 35 mph, you might only be doing 32 and that wouldn't trigger the camera.
  11. It is really sneaky of them to hide there, but if they can't catch anyone speeding there would be no money to pay their wages, SO when its getting towards the end of the month you will see them there all the time. If you didn't see it flash, then you will probably be ok, it has to flash to "do" you. on my way home, in the opposite direction I see it flashing loads of people, first time I saw it, I thought it was someone letting off fireworks ! now I always make sure i'm doing 30 or less if i'm going up there, and I'm amazed that so many people whizz past me. Good look !
  12. What do you mean ? I live a few minutes from Dore train station, some people daily commute to Manchester from there, is that the nature of your question ?
  13. What about the parking ?? its completely ridiculous that they will sell you a parking space for 15 grand on top of the flat price ??? When these developments were planned, they expected to sell the flats for around 50 - 70 K, affordable for a large section of the population, now the house prices have gone up, the developers have become insanely greedy, and asking nearer 110 K. No wonder they can't sell them, and now they have put on hold, the building of another block, which was due to be built at the end of Shalesmoor. These flats may suit some people, but how can you possibly compare the amenities available in established " good " residential areas, with what's available round Kelham Island and the Wicker ? walking up through the markets, or Snig hill, past all the unconcious tramps to get into town, is hardly the epitome of "Stylish city living" more like urban decay at its worst.
  14. My friend has an apartment in the development at millsands, but it wasn't bought with a parking space, looking round the flats there seem to be a good number of parking spaces not being used, however when she has approached the company that looks after the site, they are unhelpful and won't advise on how to buy / rent a space in this complex, instead they offer space in a multi storey car park opposite, at £1000 - per year. Short of putting up a note in the entrance halls of all the flats, is there anyone who knows what she should do to try and find a spare parking space to rent ? I recall some sort of website relating to city centre parking, but can't remember the address. Cheers
  15. Take it to John Bee on Abbeydale road, they are proper bodyshop, with all the facilities, I expect they could do a perfect repair for 100- 200 Pounds, They have done some work on a friend's Jaguar that was badly scratched on the front wing / bumper and resprayed the bootlid due to a badly fitting bike rack that scratched it all over, I think he paid near to £ 200.
  16. Saw a Bentley Continental and a Lotus Esprit V8 in Woodseats ! also seen some horrendous Honda Civics with bits of plastic drainpipe stuck to them, usually driven by some chav kid, the stereo had more power than the clapped out pensioner's favourite.
  17. I can recommend Fox and Sons Roofing, they did a fantastic job for me and their quote was quite a bit lower than all the others I got. the number is 0114 2490077 Good luck
  18. N Power are trying it on, I ended up with a CREDIT of nealy £ 700, they kept increasing the Direct debits amount, and the estimated usuage, on both Gas and Electricity, after several phone calls they repaid this amount and reduced the DD amounts, In a large terraced house I now pay £ 30 per month for Electricity, they had upped it to £ 85.00 . . You have to watch them, but you get a discount of £50.00 if you pay for both by DD from Npower and I could not find a cheaper supplier in terms of Price per KwH / unit of gas.
  19. Can anyone remember when Sheffield had both Good, cheap buses, AND good roads, funny how they have now made the bus service expensive, and the roads systems are now ridiculous. How can it be fair that they the council try and force people to use a wickedly overpriced and unreliable bus service, by causing gridlock ? ? Especially as First use the old knackered buses that Glasgow have finished with, AND the fares in Glasgow are much cheaper.
  20. It depends where in Sheffield you live ... I go to Hathersage, Castleton, up Winnats Pass, to Chapel en le frith ( A 6 ) take A 6 to Stockport, join M 60, M 56 and you are there, much less traffic and less stress.
  21. Whilst there are no published statistics, that I can find, can you answer this ? Do you think that it is desirable to have hoardes of drunken tramps wandering around town ? Why not comission a poll amongst the forum users, and see whether anyone else has noticed them ? Who knows what they might do ? What about the the drug use that I saw taking place ? isnt Drug misuse and addiction the main cause of aquisitive crime in the UK ? how many murders have we heard about recently where the perpetrators were drug addicts ? A lot of Mugging and car crime is done so that addicts can fund their next "hit" So this is a relevant comment.
  22. ********! They would be better serving the people of Sheffield if they had a walk around town, in the last couple of days, I have seen a gang of junkies openly shooting up in a doorway just off west street, behind those new flats, beside the alleyway to trippet lane, and a bloke lying unconcious in Haymarket, plus you can't walk from the top of west street into town without getting hassled from drunken tramps, saw one swigging from a sherry bottle outside the kebab shop, all of these incidents were on wednesday Lunchtime. All of these incidents pose a greater threat of harm to ordinary everyday people than some poor overworked sales rep in his Ford Mondeo doing 83 MPH up the M1
  23. Peugeot 406 Coupe V6 - These are the most beautiful car you can get without spending massive money. Obviously if I win the Euro Millions tonight, I might go for a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder
  24. What about the WORST shop of this kind ??? No frills DIY. This has got to be the most god-awful DIY shop, it might be cheap, but it is really a nasty experience, the staff are usually standing outside smoking, there's only ever one person on the till, and usually they are illiterate, the shop looks like its never been cleaned, there's boxes of stuff everywhere, nobody knows where things are, or even if they stock whatever you want. I though it must be closing down soon the last time I went, in October, the place was such a mess, and its still trading... As for B&Q, they usually have the things you want, but the prices can be horrendous, I have got a lot of items from Arnold Laver, they are pretty good and much cheaper, there are lots of little independant shops around which give a proper service and don't rob you.
  25. The leaking power steering can be solved with a can of Wynns power steering treatment, I used this on a Saab 900 a few years ago, had no problems since. parts for Ford cars SHOULD be the cheapest, and easily availible....
